Some are deliberately trying to trip you up, I am starting to get used to this.
it can be either that they dont like magic, dont like you, or even just plain old fashioned jealousy that you can do something that they cant.
Never underestimate the lengths people can go to if you have knowledge that they do not. If you won't show them how, maybe the 2nd time around they can put you off enough so that you do even if you don't mean to (flashes etc.).
I thought my mate was going to go nuts at me last night because I wouldn't show him how something was done. The brilliant thing was it was not only repeatable and completely examinable, but with good handling instantly reset right under his nose. The more I did it, the further he got from the truth lol. People just want to know how, that's just something I'm getting used to.
If they insist on seeing a trick again, have something else ready, preferably something that can be repeated as instantly as possible.
"Na, check this one out it's better" That way they will soon forget about bugging you for repeats on the 1st trick and if the next one is that good and repeatable they will also not think you were avoiding redoing the 1st as you can go straight into a repeat of the 2nd. You could even suggest it, "look, didn't you get it the 1st time? i'll show you again".
I find that tricks that begin under the pretence of showing them how to do a trick can good for this. If you have RRTCM, the spectators card trick isnt too shabby for this very purpose and is prepared for in seconds. heh heh, I learnt just last weekend, however, that one isn't best suited for drunk people. If they stray from their instruction midway through it really takes the edge off that one.
When working out patter for any effect, I always try to see where people could possibly throw a verbal spanner in the works and have a reply or route to go down ready. These are added to each time I perform the trick for more than just a mirror.
