Hi and welcome to TM, this post might be better in the support and tips section. Sorry I can't help with the trick not one I perform.

Hi,

I use this trick from time to time, and i used to get the crushing part wrong aswell - I was pretty sure the manual you get with the trick explains it, but here's my tip for you anyway - The best method is to not 'crush' the can, but to mearly squeeze the middle section inwards to create an hourglass / egg timer shape. If you squeeze to hard, or try to make it appear too crushed, it wont expand properly later when you come to perform the effect.

Hope this may have been some help.

doesn't it say in the manual to wrap a towel around it and squeeze gently so not to get any sharp 'folds' in the can?

Can I stress (once again!) that the Search funtion is a very useful tool. There have been so many previous threads on this effect so please go search and you'll find a lot of existing help and tips.
