Hi guys,

I'm 19 year old(well in a few days) male from england.

Brand new to magic but always had an interest in it. Just lacked the time to learn!

Anyhow as with anything new i always find a forum and then get recommended books. I just purchased:

Modern Coin Magic: 116 Coin Sleights and 236 Coin Tricks"
J.B. Bobo; Paperback; £9.95
AND
1 "The Royal Road to Card Magic"
Michael Bailey; Paperback; £6.59

Will get reading them when they arrive, Cant wait!!!!

Now im off to google for basic card tricks :p
Right now i just want to pull cool tricks off in the pub or at partys in quiet times.

Cheers all :)
Look forward to being part of community - Learning and teaching!

Ah good stuff,

I wondered (Forgot to add to original post so sorry for spam) - What other books are "Classics".

For example if someone asked me how to learn Poker - I'd suggest 2-3 books i consider "Bibles".

I assume their are some for magic?

I really want to learn Mentalism - Derren brown type things? They absolute amaze me!!! Anyone know any books? I understand 13 steps to mentalism is good however amazon dont seem to sell it NEW.

Thanks in advanced :)

That was written by Our Craig Browning, a professional mentalist / bizarre magician / author and very nice guy :lol:

I started with 13 steps to mentalism

Age and Status in your Profile
To help other members form a more visual picture, it would be nice to include your age and 'magic status' as a small signoff in your profile.

We're standardising this to an additional bit of info in the Location panel in your profile... and the format is

(??A : ??S) where as the ??A = your age, and the ??S = your status, chosen from the list below...

EN = Eager Newbie
AH = Amateur Hobbyist
SH = Skilled Hobbyist
WP = Working Professional
CP = Career Professional

So, for example - your Location could be

"Kent, UK, (30:WP)", meaning you're a 30 year old working pro...

This information and loads more can be found hear.

Enjoy your stay with TM

Ok excellent guys, seems a pretty helpfull (and popular) forum so far. Looking forward to getting my books!!!

Sounds like a perfect hobby to do at pubs or partys in quiet moments!

Although Mentalism is also very interesting, however finding Corindas 13 steps book for purchase is a challenge in itself.... :oops:

hi, I'm new here too and started in the same way, books (royal road and coin magic also first on my shopping list). if you are looking for a selection of books, new and second hand old books, try http://www.abebooks.co.uk/ i found quite a few sourced here and overseas much cheaper than stores and amazon, worth a look. i also got a couple of sankey's DVDs Razors Edge is a good starting point ( http://www.sankeymagic.com/ ) as he can offer a beginers routine or a series of advanced options.

hope this helps.

Cheers for like mate, ill check those out now.

One major question guys - On magic forums, it is bad form to question and put up the solutions to how YOU THINK a trick was performed?

i.e. levitation or slight of hand etc?

or is this encouraged?

Welcome

Disscussing a trick is okay but that is only for critisum (constructive mainly), and you can talk about some basic sleight of hand (Double Lifts, Pass, Some basic controls - ie. over hand shuffle control).

But DO NOT post asking things like 'oooooo can anyone please tell me how thats done' because you will get a lot of people annoyed at you.

Also do not give the trick away, because afterall anyone can view this forum (except the restricted parts :lol: ), however you can comment on parts of the trick (ie. 'you took a little too long to square up the deck, and you exposed the break',).

Well hope this has cleared some things up for you
