My Photoshop trick (hehe)

Postby Levitation_Freek » Jun 18th, '06, 03:21

Wanna fool your freinds with a little picture of you SEEMINLY levitating....if you get the right place this will look really good....well here are the steps

1.get a digital camera
2.youll need something like a tripod to keep your camera in the smae spot for two different pictures
3.take a pic of a spot with no shadow of you (this will make the editing process easier) with you in it acting all Criss Angely and stuff
4.take a picture without you
5.take both of those pictures in 2 different layers in photoshop ( this is simple if you know how to work photoshop
6.use the magnetic lasso tool and outline just you in the pic of with u in it
7.when done outlining, inverse selection
8.erase all of the background for just that picture
9.move your body up using the move tool
10.merge both layers down and you have urself APARENTLY levitating!

i realize some of you wont like this because you want to do levitations live and stuff...but i like doing these picture thingys because you rid the fear of messing up....say an angle problem and the people see how to do it and they might laugh...and i realize hardly any of you guys know how to work photoshop but this is a fun thing to do if you do know how....it kills time too...so if your bored you can try this...well whatever...tell me what you think

I've been using Photoshop fine for years. I know my way around it quite well.

And yes, it looks nice, but the only problem is when someone asks you to demonstrate it which, if you act and make out like it is all real, is going to happen.

But still, a nice image trick anyways :D.

you might want to soften the edges a bit with the blur tool.

Nice idea!

If you're looking for a couple of simple suggestions to improve it...

First I'd feather the selection a little before manipulating it (only a few pixels depending on the image size), this will soften the edges and lessen the 'cut out' look of the selection. I also prefer the magic wand tool to make the selection when, as in this case, you have good contrast between the areas you want to select and exclude. Often, working with a combination of selection tools gets the best and most accurate result.

Secondly, from a compositional point of view, I'd make sure you include your head in the finished image so it doesn't look like you've just hanged yourself!

Anyway, as this isn't a photography forum I'll shut up now!
:)

like so, and heck while your at it why not ad a some impressive looking glow and distortion. Looks hell of a lot more impressive  If you want to know, all i did to the pic is add some lighting effects with a yellow color cast and then applied the zoom filter and distorted the ground beneath the feet with the ripple effect. Generally i try to stay away from the filters cause they tend to look pretty tacky but its fun to play around with them.

Try and capture the image of yourself on a plain background 1st, like a white wall, as you could use the magic wand tool 1st.

Another cool thing that you can do is to add a ball of energy in someones hand

I love compositing that kind of thing for video.
have done a few neat effects including flying a UFO round St Pauls cathedral and also through my Cousin's garden, knocking him off his feet.

not a fan of sigs, so I won't bother adding o..... oh

Only if you apply them to something simple. Make something in photoshop, then apply good filters.

Radial blur is excellent, and so is motion blur. Glass is also a personal favourite of mine, and the Cutout filter is good if used correctly.

They only seem tacky because you do not know how to use them correctly.

I had another idea: take 2 pictures like you suggested, except stand on a chair in one of them. Then just edit out the chair!!!!!!!!
