Ambitious Card Routine

Postby Mydas » Jun 20th, '06, 09:20

Hello all.
I am a big fan of the ambitious card and I am working to improve it, to seem that the card really jumps, stunning them and leaving them with no room to think of the possibility of double lifts or such. Patter helps :D

Anyway, my routine consists of :
-spectator signing a card, going in the middle of the deck
controlling to top (swing+swivel cut)
telling them i will hit the card in the deck, trying to bring it to the top
DL, letting both cards face up on the deck
erdnase change
-turn double over, put 'selected card' in the deck (not really)
turn first card over
-marlo tilt
DL
-let them lift top half, let them put the first card into the deck
turn first card over
-turnover drop

I would like some advices, what other moves should I insert ?
Or better yet, let each of you state your fave Ambitious Card routine ...

Hi --

The main problem that I see with your routine is that it is quite repetitive. That is, you are doing exactly the same effect over and over (albeit with different sleights). IMO that is going to bore the spectators pretty badly as well as giving them a chance to figure out how you are doing it.

I would definitely hav a look at Oz Pearlman's ACR on Born to Perform. It's fairly easy to do as well as being short but very magical. I still do pretty much the same routine with just a few modifications, even after learning a lot of new moves. It's just a really well thought out routine.

I don't have to Born to Perform (but I am seriously considering buying it, I've heard it is G*R*E*A*T). What are the effects/moves of that ACR ?

I don't want to tip the entire routine in a public forum (I really do recommend Born To Perform!) but it has an Erdnase, a "separate packets" phase, Card to Mouth, and more!

Hello Mydas

Daryl's Ambitious Card DVD is packed with ways to do the ACR. Look in the Reviews section on this site and you'll find it. I've got it and it's great

ACR

I'll second Daryl's Ambitious Card if you really want to focus on this. I would suggest as mentioned above not to be too repetitive. Daryl's routine is quite long, but the beauty of an ACR is you can tailor it to different circumstances. Personally 4 or 5 phases is enough. If you really want a killer ending - look at Jay Sankey's Paperclipped (I can't do this very well) - will hit them straight between the eyes as it were (warning, you will go through a lot of cards practising paperclipped).

On another note, the Pearlman dvd is also awesome - I also love the Impossible Transpozition effect - this uses a very simple principle, and so is very easy to do - however, in all but the shrewdest of spectators eyes, is completely impossible.

N.B. On his other dvd, Stealing Pips (not as good), Oz teaches a variant of the Impossible Transpo, using the Tenkai/Bertram change, which although angly, gives a very visual climax. I still haven't performed this variant, but it is beautiful in the mirror...

A whole DVD dedicated to ACR ? Sounds nice :D
It's my favourite trick/routine, along with Jumping Gemini and Nemesis. I'm a card guy :D.
I'll go find the review right now.
Meanwhile, post how your favourite Ambitious Card Routine rolls ... What effects and what kinda patter do you enjoy most ?

One thing that may be lacking in my AC routine is that I don't really have a set patter. I usually go for the "There, I did the move" option but I don't know whether this is good or what - does anyone have opinions/comments?

The patter greatly depends on the moves you use. You once told me my routine is pretty repetitive (and I agree, it was, but I changed it a bit know, to include Jumping Card from E's ACR - different way of following a DL). It is the patter that individualizes the different parts of ACR even more. Don't go repeating same things over & over again, use your words to make each part really unique.

some other sleights I would suggest using to make it more entertaing and less repetitive are the "one handed pass" and the retention change...I have incorperated theses into my routine and it works great

IMO

Well, I don't really want to tip the routine as that's what a lot of the thinking has gone into - the moves are nothing new really. It has a card to mouth as well as quite a bit of other stuff.

I've been playing with ACR alot recently. Here's how mine goes at the moment:

1) Put in the deck - *finger snap* - comes to top
2) Put back in middle of the deck - *finger snap* - comes to top again
3) "Perhaps you're not convinced it was really your card going into the deck - well here it is" - openly show their card going into the middle of the deck - *finger snap* - comes back to the top.
4) Half the deck is fanned and the card is inserted into the fan, the fan then inserted into the middle of the other half of the deck. Top card is shown - not selection, bottom card is shown - not selection *finger snap* - now it's top card
5) Inserted back into deck - "Finger snapping brings the card to the top, but waving my hand like this" *waving motion* "sends the card to the bottom!" - card is on bottom
6) card is inserted back into the middle, deliberately face down - "another magical move can do something else" *turn the deck over face up* - it's now the only card face down in the face up pack.

Thats my basic sequence so far...depending on how interested my audience are at this point I would move into the card in my pocket under my/their glass, and finish with Sankey's Paperclipped.

When I started routining this I wasn't comfortable with my DL and this routine only uses 1 DL and 1 TL.

Here's my Ambitious card "Routine" (I don't have a set routine):

1) Take top card and place in middle... snap and back on top

2) Place back in middle and snap... back on top

3) Place back in middle and show top card... not their card... EGO CHANGE!

4) Place back in middle, they put card in middle... card is in my mouth.

5) Place card back in middle, showing that it really is their card, and hotshot card out.

6) Bend card and place in middle... Snap and bent card jumps to top.

As I said, i don't have a set routine, so this always varies.
