SUPER SIGHT


The Effect A spectator is given a solid brass container, a screw on lid and 5 coloured disks. One is chosen, out of view of the performer, and hidden, the other discs are placed back in the container and the lid is screwed back on, proving you have no way to see the discs. The performer then tells the spectator the colour of the chosen disk. You dont even need to be in the same room when the disc is chosen and the container closed!

Review This is my first review and I have chosen this effect for two reasons. It was the first effect I spent my own hard earned money on and it brings the ability to perform magic to the masses without the need to study or practice. Anything that gets people interested in the art is a good thing, in my opinion and these kind of mentalism type tricks help enormously in that area.

Ok, what do you get for your money?
You get a solid brass container with a screw on lid, five brass discs - each painted with a different colour on one of the sides (the discs have raised brass edges around the colour to prevent chipping-nice touch), a nice little bag to carry it in or use to hide the chosen disc in during the act and full instructions that DO tell you everything you need to know. All in a sturdy box for postman pat protection when you order it.
£22?! I hear you cry. Well these items are well crafted and are solid brass, to be honest, unless you live in a furnace this trick will last as long as you do.
The effect is a strong one, there are no slights swaps or palms, no buttons to press, no silly glass bottoms to look through or anything that would give the game away (all of these had crossed my mind). I use the effect with a card trick, I use the chosen disc as a "mental link" to the spectator. They hold it in their hand and as I do the card trick they stop thinking about it, when I finish the card trick and they are in the wow stage I grab their hand and stare into their eyes. Just as they are starting to feel uncomfortable I tell them their chosen colour. They react well to this though the effect is strong enough to do on its own and have people follow you around the pub asking, "how DID you do that?"
Lastly but to me most importantly, everything is examinable before, after and during the performance. I would spread the bits out between a few spectators though as if you had all the parts, the right kind of background/brain and say 5 mins to keep trying you might well work it out but under normal conditions you are very safe.
A real puzzle for people that usually provides only one explanation, real magic

Overall This trick does what it says on the tin and it does it very well, if you are interested in mentalism tricks or indeed tricks of any kind, this one is a classic winner.
The instructions only cover one side of a single piece of paper and are very easy to follow, anybody could be performing this within 5 mins of opening the package.
A great effect that really has no explanation to the spectator and a great build quality.
A one trick wonder yes, but what a wonder.

In a moment of madness I think I swapped this with someone. It was called "Mystic Chips", but I am pretty sure it was the same effect.

And now I want it back!!

I am doing more and more mentalist magic at the moment - and you are spot on when you say this is easy to do and well made, and also extremely impressive to the spectator.

What was I thinking of swapping it!!!!

The thing I love about this one is that there is no explanation, no cards for people to come up with fantastic fifteen finger reverse shuffle thingy wotsit explanations, no weird hand movements at all, no part of the performance that people will want you to do again for inspection etc.
Just plain stops them dead in their tracks.

This trick made me realise there is a skill level in magic for everyone, it enabled me to wow people straight away.
If it can break the "I'd never be able to do what you do" barrier and get somebody interested then the review was worth the time

I think the really important thing to learn from the easy to do tricks like this is that it gives us a great opportunity to improve our presentation and patter. Arguably as important (if not more so) as doing the sleights and flourishes themselves.

Speaking personally, sometimes when doing a trick that involves sleights or counts, (the "elmsley count" for example, and I can feel people cringe* even at the mention of it), we can all so easily get too involved in the workings of the trick and forget about the presentation. As I said I am speaking personally.

So it is nice sometimes to have an easy to do trick - which can just be enjoyed by th emagician - giving a chance to more easily flex the presentation muscles.

* - you were cringing. admit it. this is just another example of my truly amazing mental skills.

That is a very very good point.
A guy that can do lots of effects is a magician, a guy that can do the effects and the presentation is magical.

We all know who David Blaine is because of him and how he does it, not because he can do the "elmsley count" (shudder)

That is why I mentioned how I use the effect really, to show that even though you can only do one trick with this, with a little imagination it can become part of something much bigger.
It is something that can evolve for people as their understanding evolves, as with all effects.

ps, bananafish, you read my mind! How did you..What did....Where?!

ok so you have five possible colurs that can be revealed, ok a little thought meen's you colud have five different coloured big objects around the room and reveal the colour that way.
or make up five a4 cards laminated of course and have them in different places.

i myself like to use a change bag and coloured balls as the tube is set on the table as you get your bag your set to add the correct colour all you need to do is have four specs choose a ball and keep it in there closed fist and the last ball goes to the origional spectater who will have choosen the exact same colur twice in a row.
great build up to the climax as each one in tern reveals thier chosen colour and its not it.

I used that method the other day, bag and cloured balls and just wanted to say it went down a storm!
It really added to the whole effect and enabled me to move onto another trick with the bag easily, thanks for that.

I helped out at a childrens party a few days earlier and used that old trick of food colouring in the bottom of a non-clear cup and poured clear lemonaide into it to reveal the colour. I had 5 stacks of cups and I picked the right one, filled everyones cup and the lemonaide did the prediction for me. Not as strong by far but it entertained both the kids and the adults.

I bought this little gem from Blackpool the other day, it is a nice trick, well made, but, without giving away any secrets, mine seems a little incorrect.

For those who know how it works, lets just say that the pentagram doesn't tally with the props, any ideas on how to correct this ?

I have made slight alterations to the pentagram to make everything more accurate, so, I hope that sorts it.

Other than that small problem, it is still a well made pocket trick.
