Hi my name is Andy Davis

Hi there...

I'm new at Talk Magic so heres a little about myself:

I've been learning magic for about five years now, but untill recently have never had the coruage to try to do shows, mainly I would show it to friends, family, workmates and for hours on end my girlfriends, for which I apologise! ( By the way I don't have loads of girlfriends, just one, but I had a change of girlfriends a few years ago, as it turns out my ex doesn't like magic!!)

I have started now to pluck up the courage and have started to perform for complete strangers, nothing big, I don't get paid infact all of my stuff has been at a local community centre. This works for me, and them as I get to practice on real people, and the many groups which hire the centre get a free magic show!! So far my reactions have been good.

Im sure I will be speaking to many of you about how to go about getting gigs around the Brighton area, ideally I would love to do my stuff in pubs and resatuarants close up to people, think I need a bit more courage building first!!

I have a website if anyone wants to look: www.mrmagicman.co.uk , don't be fooled by all the information thats on the site, my brother is trying to learn website design and like a fool I let him use my website as a trial, I logged on to it one day to find out that I was the new david Blaine who had performed tricks all around the world (to my knowledge sitting in a hotel bedroom in China showing a few tricks to my roommate whilst waiting for our guide does not constitute an international performance!!) Although none of the information is a lie, most of it is over exaggerated, as I'm sure you will notice!! I will be happy to seperate the myth from the real Andy Davis. The real one is quite simple really!!

Thanks for listening to me go on and on, Hope to speak to many of you soon, and hopefully find out where magic shows are performed in Brighton, one of my favourite things about magic is watching others perform it.

I've also joined another forum (you might recognise this introduciton if you too belong to it) as I think its excellent there are places like this people can exchange ideas

Thanks Again

Andy

Welcome, that is some feat to have performed around the World when you are new to magic. If you don't mind me saying it is a dangerous game to make false claims in magic. As a professional magician i know that bookers would not be pleased if they thought they were booking an international award winning magician and find out the person is not. look forward to reading your posts. Please don't take offense at my suggestion.

I have to say unfortunatley it was a contributing factor to the relationships demise.

Let me just clarify something about my website, I would describe myself as an amateur hobbiest when it comes to magic, and therefore do not actively look for paid gigs. I would never falsely advertise myself in this way. The website is more of a jokey thing for me my family and friends, I dont advertise it anywhere and have never had any enquires, it does not appear on any search engines anywhere near the top of the lists, and I think the only way a layman would find it would be to type the name into the address bar, which would be very unlikely.

If I ever did begin to use it as a "serious" tool for recruiting events I would of course change it to be more an accurate description of me.

Let me again just say I would never misrepresent myself or my magic in order for money, The very fact that I dont use the site to get paid gigs I thought made it just a bit of fun to have the stuff on it.

Hope it didnt cause any offence.

Andy
