someone riffles through the deck and tells you to try and see a card then he takes the deck, flicks it and it becomes the one you saw. please help me with the name so i can get a book that tells about it.

There is a trick on the On The Spot (or is it Born To Perform) like this.
Magician riffles cards and asks you to think of a card you see then he pulls a card out of the deck and says what was your card, you tell him and hay presto he is holding your card.

Oh hang on... I got this feeling you might be thinking of a "special" deck of cards!!

Anyone else got any ideas?? :)

Magic is real, just look around you, some of the most amazing things have no reason, no explanation but are very real.

Im thinking svengali maybe. All magic shops and decent websites sell those. Get yourself one, theyre not expensive! You cant learn that from a book as its a gimmick

NO NO NO,

You don't want to start on gimmicks.

Buy a book, eg Mark Wilsons Complete Course In Magic.

It will cost you the price of a couple of these decks, but you will learn a whole range of magic.

Are you just interested in card magic?

If so, I'm sure that others will post a choice of decent books for you.

You have to learn the basics, then learn how to PERFORM.

Don't try to take shortcuts, as you will: a, spend too much money,
b, jump straight from buying to "showing" the tricks.

Learning how to perform does a few things.
Makes it enjoyable for the audience.
Makes sure you shouldn't be caught out.
Makes it more enjoyable for YOU.

Take it from someone who has already made these mistakes!

Its ok to start with something like a Svengali (gimmick trick) but done end up depending on them. Learn some skills, slights and so on. The main this is to have fun. :D

Your welcome. I started with a Svengali and a stripper and worked my way on to Royal Road and Born To Perform.

I'm thinking it's actually a s**** card followed by a colour change (snap change?).

The thing about this trick is that I managed to do it impromptu. I mean all you need for the force is a s***** card, and well, sliding one card halfway out the back of the deck accomplishes the same thing. Bad angles though.

well this effect is also explained in david blaines 'mysterious stranger'. after reading his explanation however, i still thought it wasnt going to be 100% fool proof. There are no gimmicks and the effect is more of a strobe light effect which has the spectator see a card which isnt actual there due to clever positioning of other cards. The book isnt that expensive, got mine for about £2.
