http://www.whsmith.co.uk/whs/go.asp?isb ... fId=546330

The Effect
133 pages of table magic in a well organized book.
Part one is 54 pages of card magic ranging from self working to medium slights. Examples of tricks include; face to face fantasy, six of spades count down and double vanish and recovery.
Part two is over 30 pages of magic with matches. Simple easy to do match vanishes, productions and problem puzzles.
Part three is just over 10 pages of money magic including vanishes, and the indestructible bill.
Part four is common object magic. About 30 pages of magic with paper clips, sugar cubes, rubber bands and napkins.

Cost
£10.44

Difficulty
1 to 3 (1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used, 4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)
I say 1 to 3 as it really depends. The book hosts a number of tricks and they range in level of ability needed.

Review
A good teaching book for table magic. Suitable in my opinion for beginners and magicians with some skills. A few slights required for some of the tricks but these are in the book.

Overall
I give this book a 7 out of 10. not the best book I have read but I do still think it is an ok book.

Magic is real, just look around you, some of the most amazing things have no reason, no explanation but are very real.

Thanks for that AJ82.

It's nice to see a book review, as we don't seem to get enough of them these days.

Didn't Martin Gardner have a huge interest in recreational mathematics? I wonder if his self-working card tricks have arisen out of this other interest of his.

Nice review - thank you. I am a big fan of Martin Gardner in general.

Just as an interesting aside. I followed the link you provided and it seems they are selling the book for £7.95. Even cheaper.

Excellent news Bananafish, thanks for pointing it out. With my book reviews I tend to link to WH Smith especially it it is an onlder book because I know they update their prices quite often.
