The Effect

The performer displays a coin on his open left hand, and a drinking glass in the right. He taps the coin with the glass twice, and on the third tap the coin is seen to visually penetrate the glass and be rattling around inside.

Cost

$14.95, so about £8 or £9...not sure. (from ellusionist.com)

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

I would say 3, but an easy 3.

Review

I was very impressed by this, i thought there would be some akward palms or switches, but the method is simple, and can be learned in minutes. The teaching is good, and the trick is so simple that it can be performed confidently without fear of failure (after a bit of practice obviously).

Overall

Very good visual and audible penetration.

8 out of 10.

i forgot to say that this is designed to be shown facing spectators head on, but can have a few either side.

And it resets instantly, and cos it's so fast you could get away with showing someone 2 or 3 times...

Good review! I recently got this and found it quite easy to get down, i would give it a 2 but everybodys opinions are different!

Another thing i like about it is that you can also do it with a bottle to make a cool coin thru bottle effect! But it has to be a 'certain type' of bottle.....

I was born with Multiple Personality Disorder. Luckily, they are all me, they just dont always get along...

thanks matey, i kinda agree with ya on the difficulty level, but as i say an easy 3. havent tried with a bottle yet but that would look even more baffling. it's a very satisfying trick because of the sound it makes dont ya think?

Really great, but to be able to do it like Geir would take a lot of practice....

I bought this after watching the demo vid, i am finding it really really difficult to do, let alone master. So reading these reviews is really suprising to me, I have obviously gotta practice more.

It is quite difficult, it's ok with a glass, but I can't imagine doing it with a bottle.... I suppose if you practice a few hours, you have something you will be able to do forever...

new spin, old trick

Postby archimage » Jun 7th, '07, 02:08

come on guys! "Infusion" has been around for ages! It's called the strike vanish!

Is magic really new if you take the same principle and apply it with a different prop? Maybe. I think it is really hard to truely invent something new.

Is a trick new if you put a new routine to an old trick and then call it something different altogether?!

I don't know. Maybe. I don't think so, but maybe. It seems these days that the ellusionist technique is to find something old, give it a cool name, put some new graphics, change the routine and it's the newest thing!

In my day, we'd call that bait and switch. Don't get me wrong, "infusion" is a cool trick and have done it myself, in a variety of ways. I just think the marketing strategy for some of these ellusionist tricks are a bit misleading.

Thanks for allowing me the rant.
