Hi - quick question

Postby kieran » Jun 25th, '06, 13:09

Hi, my name is kieran and im not big into magic but have always been amazed by it and would like to be able to do a few card tricks. I'm looking for a good card magic book for a beginner, i dont have too much time to practise (i know practise makes perfect). Really, i want something with clear simple instructions which doesnt involve learning loads before i can perform a trick.

I've found http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASI ... 71-4501530

and

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASI ... 71-4501530

thats : Self-working Card Tricks: 72 Foolproof Card Miracles for the Amateur Magician and The Little Giant Encyclopaedia of Card and Magic Tricks

and wondered if either of them are any good. Karl Fulves is a little old and im not sure if these things go out of date?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Kieran

Welcome to TM.

The Karl Fulves serios of books are a great introduction to magic and would in my opinion be ideally suited to you, as you're starting out.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Karl Fulves books are still as good today as they were then.

Thanks for the help guys, the review is really helpful, looked for one but couldn't find it. I'm not sure which sounds better though, Scarne on Card Tricks or Karl Fulves book. Does either have an advantage over the other?

warning you now, if you get involved in magic, it will ruin it for you. Once you learn the basics you start catching things more and more, and things that were once magic are now just "that was pretty cool".

Hi,

I can highly recommend my good friend, Nic Einhorn's book, The Art of Magic.

It starts at the beginning, handling cards, then works on to hand sleights, passes and shuffles. Very good for beginners.

By the end of it, you'll be heavily into magic

by the book here

Hi and welcome.

Havent got either of those books - but I have got Royal Road to CardMagic.

This is good for starters, but does look a bit dated now (the layout and style of the book as opposed to the tricks which are still relevant today)

OK for the price though

Hi and welcome Kieran,

I have had the Karl Fulves book for ages and it is realy good to start with and it wont cost loads of money! The book is quite old but most card tricks are timeless and are still as good today as they were 20 years ago!

I made my wife dissapear just by arguing with her!!!
