Looking to buy the best prop that can be performed and amaze

Postby seksiwill » Jun 25th, '06, 14:05

Sorry if I am postin in the wrong section but this section seems like it fit my request best. I'm basically looking for a something like the electric touch but a bit more realiable, mobile and has the same type of effect that can amaze anyone. Price makes no difference but nothing crazy. Thanks all.

I meant to add to my original post that I am no magician and I have no experience at all. I highly respect the skill, work and dedication it takes for you all to perform. Im looking for something that requires minimal skill.

Yeah i've seen the trick before and it is pretty cool but i dont think its my style. I like stuff like the electric touch or this new black widow.

Sorry to disappoint - but there is no such thing. If you want to do magic - then you need to start at the beginning. The thing is - easy come easy go. You might have a bit of success with your 'prop', but you'll soon get bored, and so will your group of freinds that you will most likely end up showing it - so you'll then be searching for the next best thing and before you know it you'll be spending lots of money chasing after the wind.
The real magic comes from you - not any prop that you buy. That takes time and dedication. If you decide to go that route, then I'm sure you'll get a lot more advice then you're currently getting in this thread (other than the advivce I'm giving you)

i toally agree with taneous on this although i do like gimmicks and self working props. i am currently thinking of getting the time machine but i am not made of props, before any props i did buy books and learn alot of card sleights and coin sleights and then tricks built up from them.

I thought that I'd add something in between your conversation.

Electric Touch is not for you! You'll waste around £120 of your money and get zero reactions as you have no other magic skills to accompany this effect. That's what it is afterall, an effect and it's not a trick in it's own right.

I would recommend something like a coin unique or dynamic coins to start off with. Both can appear magical, are suited to your level of skill, requires very little practice (unlike other effects) and you'll get a better reaction from your mates as long as you don't reveal how it works - then it's BLOWN!

I do appreciate your reply Taneous but I think the same thing would happen with other tricks as well. I'm actually looking for these type of tricks for my PUA (Pick up Artist) game opposed to holding shows or doing magic on the street or anything.

I have no clue as to what a PUA is but I do know that magic, especially something as potentially DANGEROUS as Electric Touch, has no place in such a world. IT IS NOT A PRACTICAL JOKE and I fear that this is the manner in which you intend to exploit it -- you might as well go purchase a taser, in that a "taste" of what this effect does won't be enough in the long run.

They level of immaturity and irresponsibility being suggested in this thread around such a piece is disgusting, but more to the point, what is being suggested reveal such a lack of respect towards magic on the whole, that I'm surprised you went this deep into a thread before getting your wrist politely slapped by someone as kind-hearted as Taneous (if you haven't noticed, I'm not quite as kind or gentle... a bit more too the point.)

If you want to learn how to do magic, then stick around and learn. But if your only goals in life are to be a practical joker and the mythical "life of the party" by doing bad tricks, I think you may want to do some re-evaluation about what's important in life and why you have an interest in this, that or the other. Don't do things just because you can or, as you've intimated "you can afford to do so". Our world is filled with far too many poor little rich-kids who had mummy and daddy go out and drop $100,000.00 on a John Gaughan Magic Kit so they'd think themselves "professionals" and "great"... most of them fail however due to the lack of practical experience and the willingness to take direction and thus LEARN the craft they've invested so much money into.

Think about it.

I don't mean to repeat what Craig and dat has said, but the button has been firmly pushed and i must spring.

Electric Touch is a serious tool for working magicians and mentalists. It is not a practical joke or a toy. It is not used for shocking the cat next door and it can be very dangerous in the wrong hands. I would strongly urge you not to make this your first purchase as i don't think it is suitable for you just yet. You could potentially kill someone with this effect.

When i received my Electric Touch i spent a long while studying all material and safety checking before i performed this to a live audience. Even now i never use this as a shock effect.

Why do people want to give shocks, what is so magical about that. If people want to do that then join Jackass or something.

You can get many great illusions and effects without the need for E.T. Why not start off with something cheap and safe or even a good book.

The only shock to give to a spec is the shock that you create in their mind when they see something unexpected that they cannot logically explain.

This is what magic is about - not something that runs on batteries!

Well tons of points to cover and I'll cover what I remember. First of all I never mentioned anything about having a rich daddy or anything its just most of the props/accesories im looking for have all been below 300 which i'd be willing to pay. Im actually in the US Army so I think I earn my keep just well. Second, ive only seen the electric touch video's and when looking at it for purchase I didn't see anything saying it is recommended for training magicians ect, so point taken. Also a PUA (Pick Up Artist) is in a nutshell someone who learns techniques, routines and stuff to learn to pick up women. Theres way more detail but I'm not going to go into it now. Second Craig i'd hardly call what Taneous said a slap on the wrist and the fact that you attempt to represent a senior member within the forum only shows your immaturity on being able to handle questions from someone who knows nothing about Magic, so EXCUSE me. Also like stated before I don't plan to hold street shows this will just tie in with some of my routines for pick-up and in no way will i try to portray that im a magician or try to disrespect what you guys do, ie me saying earlier i respect the dedication ect that you all put into this art/practice. There was more to cover but im pretty tired.
