Self Tying Shoelace (as seen on David Blaine)

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

Thanks! :) So, really, I suppose what I'm asking is, is this your effect to share, or your method of producing someone else's effect?

Right. It's not a threat, but you seemed to assume that everyone is taking your 'side' and not mine.

I acknowledged that you made a mistake, I was actually referring to your first few posts in which you tried to battle against the moderators decision.

I was advised to walk away from this because it's is pathetic. Believe it or not, I do not want an argument. And I have been trying to polie.

Cardza wrote:There is some validity to your argument, granted, but still. Take a step back, and do just take this as a lesson. This is a friendly place, honest!

I really do not see how I am 'slapping you in the face' with that. This whole thing has been a mess. You seem to think I am setting out to be nasty and despite my best attempts to explain otherwise, you won't accept it. Let me repeat this: I am not trying to be nasty! I have no wish to get in to arguments! I am sure that you do have valid contributions to make!

I merely wish that we can draw a line underneath all of this. This is my first 'big' confrontation like this in my months at TM. I'm not the sort of person who sets out to be nasty, I'm not trying to be nasty!

So...we draw a line underneath all of this?

well, i saw david blaine do it on his show and after the 3rd time
he showd it i kinda had an idea of a way to do the trick.

i know how a lot of these tricks are done and know that
simple is always the key to success.

the way i do it "could" be the same way he did it but i really dont know.

i came on here to share my idea and to see if we (as magicians)
could tweek my version and make it the same or better then how
david B did it.

Maybe someone on here could suggest a member who could answer your query by PM. That way it wouldn't be on view. Only give details of YOUR idea, not how you think DB does it. If someone is suggested and is willing, it would answer your question, without causing any more problems.

So how about it? A new member is after advice and is willing to go into details, so he isn't asking HOW to do something. We all make mistakes, owning up to them as he has is worth something.

Perhaps you've already worked out how he actually did it ;). That's something I didn't manage to do! If it is what you've done, and the mods did jump in a bit quickly didn't they, then it's not somethng that we can discuss here because it'd be exposing another magician's method without his consent. It really presses buttons for some people, as you can probably tell... ;)

I know I said I'd walk away, but I can't drop this just yet. I'm not trying to be manipulative. I have offered to draw a line under all this, but you came back with 'blah blah blah'. I genuinely dislike arguments. There were better things that I could have been doing with my evening than this.

If I have offended you, then I apologise. But I have offered to draw a line under all of this. If you are willing to do so, just say. It was never my intention to offend, and again if I have I apologise. At no point have I tried to be manipulative.

So, once again I ask can we draw a line beneath this? If it's a no then fine. We'll just stay out of each other's way. So, a sensible answer?

Oh, and on topic? A PM would be the wise way to go. In this respect it is unfortunate that you do not yet have access to the R&D board as this would have been a great place to ask it.

Black Stone - you said multiple times it was either a stupid or silly gimmick. You also said it wasn't worth $20 - but the rest was there as well, so you can't really go back on it, now.

I never called you stupid - I said post a video and I can say that your method was stupid and silly - my comment on how you suck was in light of your comment about Steve Fearsons' marketed effects. Perhaps "suck" was too strong a word, but I felt it was warranted.

If we're going to argue semantics, I said braying LIKE a jackass, I didn't say you WERE a jackass. But I'm not about to get into this again.

You are perfectly free to hate this and any other effect that comes out. But if you choose to stay around here - don't think we'll let you get away with calling an effect stupid or silly.

If you feel I called you a jackass, my apologies - although I didn't do so.

isnt this what you are doing from the get go????... i never said this trick is worthless..
i just said since all it is, is a silly gimmic that its not worth a
full $20!!!

i never said it should be free. nor did i undermine his work on it.

i just simply said that all it is, is a simple gimmic and that i thought
it was over priced for how simple it is.

take "Hofzinser All Backs" card routie and compair that
to this shoe lace trick.

Hofzinser is a fully thought out puzzle that when done
right looks just amazing. no gimmics.. must of took this
guy a long time to put this together.

you can buy this trick for $5

this shoe trick just relys on one little gimmic
and they want $20!!!

i think they are just mooching off the popularity of
the show... in a month from now i bet it will be
$2

guys guys guys iv'e spoken at length with mr black regards his post and I'm sure no we have an open dialogue we will discuss magic further.

i wish to ask how many of the people who responded to his edited post actual saw the origional post, for thoughs that didn't he gave a reasoned idea of how he thought the trick should be done and suggested a way that it could be improved, this part being total exposure of a method of achieving this effect was rightfully edited and his further comments when he was trying to find out where he when wrong.

second do any of you guys feel you were wrong in the way you worded your origional critisism and could maybey have used less imflamintary statments bearing in mind this guy hasan't been around long and was unaware of how we conduct ourselves.

yes things have and still are getting heated and i can't nor choose to defend either side i meerly state that it takes two to tango and i sugest we all leave this thread for a bit and go have a coffee.
