Self Tying Shoelace (as seen on David Blaine)

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

Once more, welcome to the TM forum, im sure you will receive some excellent advice here. Personally, I feel that the trick aforementioned emphasized the use of luck, camera tricks or real genuine esp powers. I may be wrong, but it proves to be just my tkae on it since you mentioned that the person merely thought of a name. Others please feel free to correct me if I am wrong. May I add however that it is INDEED possible to produce such an effect with a slight variation, and if done correctly, the reactions you will get will be just as good. This involves the use of pen and paper. Be aware however that you could scale down and look for beginner magic tricks in the vast field of mentalism by buying books like 13 steps to mentalism by Corinda or purchasing the super sharpie from penguin magic which IMHO produces fabulous reactions when done right. Another such and similar gimmick is the Swami gimmick.

As for cards, I would also recommend the same dvd as mentioned by Cardza. What is important is that you learn a few basic sleights at first and without realising it you will be able to create magic as good as it can get using those few simple moves. As it is often said , " Simple hits Hard". It may not seem obvious at first but trust me, as you practise and progress you will find that you will be able to produce some spectacular effects which will eaily blow your spectators away. May I add that although david blaine performs magic tricks like the taxi trick which you mentioned, he also views it fit to perform simple card magic which you will be able to do with some basic sleights.

As you progress, you will find much more spectacular tricks that then one you mentioned that will keep you etched in your audiences mind forever. I hope you found some useful tips here.

Thanks to everyone for great advice.
I am definately now looking into beginner tricks, in the last couple days I've picked up a couple card tricks and coin tricks.
Wanting to do something like guess a name that is being thought of is a longer term goal for me. I realize there is a learning curve to go through and I am happy to do simpler tricks to start off with. As for the self tying shoelace trick, It probably is more advanced than a beginner trick, but I thought it was so appropriate for me since I am notorious for walking around with untied shoes.

Ive been showing one card trick and have had a lot of fun baffling my friends. I have learned though, not to do it twice in front of them because then they have a chance to figure it out. I work with very technical bright people some of whom are intent on analysizing and figuring the trick out from the start. I'm hoping to come up with a card trick that would stand up to the kind of analysis that one of my friends can give.

You may want to pick up a couple of books as well. Lots of good ideas on this forum. Best of luck with your magic :P

Hello... This is my first post.

I didn't read the rules, and now I feel stupid for thinking this is an exposure forum.

Could someone please put the forum rules in a language I can understand, like Venusian, or Martian, please?

Thanks a lot.

By the way, great forum. If I had an ounce of gratitude, dignity or manners, I'd have introduced myself before acting like a plonker.

It's so nice to have a new member explain why he's a total plonker, rather then leaving us all to wonder why and debate the matter. :?

it must surly be time for some tombstone polish (ancient reference to when we had a basement stalled by some weird guys who kept it free from rats and stored sadly departed members deemed far to sad for the sin bin).

i still have my keys.

don't worry before the sinbin and back when there were very few of us and the doves head was a real bar (ish) we had a basement were thoughs unfortunate beings who were banned had there markers placed.

the reminants are still called the basment archives, think of it as the sinbin to the max once there you never ever get to come back.

Ok, I don't know if I've said this before.
