Female Magians?

Postby Mackaillie » Mar 28th, '07, 06:29

How did you get started, and at what age? I am 42 yr.old man, I got started a couple of yrs. ago to entertain my 2 girls( CUPS&BALLS). My oldest at the time (7) wanted to learn, so I taught her a cups routine that she performed for her drama class at school(she got an A+ for the show) and has been learning simple card magic (6 to 8 tricks). I am hoping that this will leed into her own student business in the future.
Keep up the magic, you may have or will inspire a future female magician. Ernie Hall :)

That'll be Fay Presto.

She has residences at Langan's Brasserie, and Frankie Dettori's and Marco-Pierre White's restaurant. And she does it all dripping in diamante too. Real class.

Wow, what a miss understanding, Iam not a tranny,i was making reference that there is more female magicians out there, and I try to find help not to just make myself better, but also my girls. I read over what I wrote last night, I can understand the miss understanding, I have to stop going on line late at night.

I think Tomo was replying to an earlier post, Mackaillie and not calling you a tranny. :D

And best of luck to your girls, the more females we get in magic the better, I think. :D

Postby ladyrachel » Apr 12th, '07, 12:30

Hi..

I am new to this site - i have just done my first event, it was a Red Bull Launch Party - i was very nervous!! It went well, people were shocked to see a female magician

I was wondering if you can get good lessons anywhere? I would really like to go somewhere with my magic as its something I love..

I have about 10 tricks i do at the mo, but would love to learn more :)

Love

Rachel

Hi Rachel,

Always great to see another girlie in here :D

What sort of magic are you into and what level are you at?

There are plenty of great books out there which will really help you, I'd usually recomend Mark Wilson's Complete Course but as you've already done your first gig, you might already be beyond some of it. Still, it's well worth getting if you've not already as it does cover such a wide range of magic, I'm sure you'll find plenty in there that you could use.

In the past, I've been mainly a close up card type person but over the last few months I've started dipping my toes into sorts of different things.

At the moment I'm putting together a stand up act to music which will include, sponges, cups and balls, rope, silks and when ever else takes my fancy.

I think that if you say you are a female that does magic as an occupation people will assume you are an assistant because that's the usual scenario even though the assisant does alot more that bring props on and of and subject themselves to be sawn in half

It's a shame there are not more women magicians out there. But there are quite a few in the US and in across Europe. List of top Female Magician biographies: http://www.all-about-magicians.com/femalemagicians.html

They're both doing brilliantly, thanks! :D

I've not got them doing magic tricks just yet but Yasmina's favourite toy is my giant sponge bunny so that's got to be a good sign :D
