Hello everyone (waves nervously...)

Postby Maddened » May 22nd, '06, 16:42

Hello everyone. I'm 22 this year, just starting out in Magic. Haven't performed much but know a little bit (I like to read up), and so have ended up becoming somewhat of a theory kind of guy.

I'll be honest to say that I'm kind of nervous being here because I've been loitering for a while and the level of discussions here have been rather high. Everyone is so knowledgable and experienced! I'm awed.

Personally I love card magic but have a problem performing (mainly for friends and the odd theatre of invisible but appreciative audience) as I still can't get past the nerves and shaky hands. Maybe it's because I've only been doing this for a couple of months, but well, it also takes me a long time to learn sleights and just when I think I got them down pat, I start shaking and screw things up. Heh. I seem to perform better under certain conditions though - mostly after a couple of beers.

Well I don't really know where to start and where to jump in on the discussions, so first of all this little introduction about myself. I know it's a little messy, sorry about that.

Well anyway, I'm trying to get into mentalism now as I find I can perform mentalism better than card or coin magic. I'm reading Corinda and it's unbelievable how great the material is even after all these years. The interviews with Fogel and Cladue Chandler were incredibly insightful and useful.

I'm very green at mentalism (and as a student, am also astoundingly poor), so I hope to learn more from people on the forums.

I should stop my rant here now and just say, thanks for having me here. :D

Hello and welcome to TM. No need to be nervous, everyone was a newbie at some point during their magic career or hobby. Have fun and join in when you feel ready :P

That's one of the biggest illusions of all time  ! There are some very skilled and innovative magi here but they're all decent people and will be happy to help you in your journey through magic. There are also plenty of newcomers and very unskilled members on TM who will share that journey and keep you company. Welcome and please don't feel you need to hold back, if you have a valid point then let's hear it - you could easily be right!

(Waves back confidently, trips over dog, disappears behind sofa in an untidy heap but still keeps on waving!)

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

Aw thanks guys!

You'll notice that I already made a little mistake in my intro post by saying that I'm 22 this year. Actually I've turned 23 a month ago.

Thanks again for the warm welcomes! *waves a little less nervously and hands Mandrake a plaster*
