Wow this looks pretty impressive from this great review! Think i mayhave to find £25 from somewhere! The effects that caught my eye were Brainless Travellers (because i love Strange Travellers and this seems too good to be true!), Signed Card from Sealed Envelope (because i was trying to come up with an idea for this just the other day!) and Card to Spectators Pocket (is the card signed in this?)

I was born with Multiple Personality Disorder. Luckily, they are all me, they just dont always get along...

Hi James. Why not pop up to the Ipswich Magical Society Convention on the 22nd Oct and help Peter Nardi sell them. I am sure you would sell bucket loads if you were on the stall. Heck, I'll even buy one!

By the way I saw you in the Ruskin at Blackpool early this year - at least I assume that was you putting pots of Jam on everyone's shoulder! This was the Friday lunchtime before it all kicked off so you helped make it an execellent start to a wonderful weekend of magic.

Ok, I'm trying to perfect the pot of jam trick.....
has anyone, james, got any tips on the angles?
do you have a best postion for the spectator to be in when you load the pot?
from the dvd I noticed that in the lecture presentation the spec is on the right, in the live performance the specs seem to be either infront or to the right......
and sometimes its performed almost surrounded
maybe I'm worrying too much?
is it just one of those moves you on the off beat with balls?
I just think that at that point in the routine they maybe watch rather closely, as they have all ready seen the magic with the coins a couple of times?
one way or another, this is going into my repetoire as it is too good to leave out, so any pointers on this part would be much appriciated!
thanks again james for a top release!
cheers
matt

Matt Wainright, I think the pot load is one of those things that you just go for and get away with.

When I first watched the dvd I didn't have any pots handy (not being a yokel) so I picked up the nearest thing I had, a size D battery. It was a whopper, impossible to really conceal in your hand and a bu**er to load. I tried it continuously in front of the mirror until it looked quite natural, then filmed myself doing it. Major flashing on film. Went back to the mirror, practiced again 'til I'd got it as near to perfection as I thought possible with an object that size then filmed again. More flashing. At this point I thought to myself 'oh sod it, who dares wins' and went to try it out on someone anyway. I collared my brother and sister and her boyfriend, all of whom are used to my magical flounderings and wise to where they should be looking to catch me out. I performed the trick and they all shat themselves, the load went past all three of them and the only one that noticed anything was my sister who spotted the battery in my hand just before I dropped it out. since then I've found a nice pot of jam that works a treat and so far no one's caught the switch at all.

The artist who does not rise, descends.

I have this DVD, and it's amazing, a contender for the best DVD i own. It's exactly what i'd been looking for, mostly impromptu, bold, daring magic, and one of the few DVDs i've bought from which i've wanted to learn ALL the routines.

I have two questions for anyone who can help.

1. Where can you get hold of those pots of Jam?, i have one empty one which i guess i could fill and glue closed. But for future replacements... I have searched high and low in cardiff, food halls, delicatessens, no joy.

2. Does anybody know of any other DVDs etc are of the same style that may be of interest to me? Impromptu/bold/misdirection/cards??

I love it.

Cheers

Jam can be got from health food shops.

Another similar DVD of interest is Dave Forrests' 'Trickery' currently.

The best place for the pots of Jam that James uses are local hotels. They are specially for catering / caterers.

In fact, why use a pot of jam?

Other similar size comical items are:

1. Marmite
2. Vaseline
etc.

Not having this effect I can't be specific but if the jars are those small individual ones sometimes found on breakfast tables in hotels then try Morrison's Supermarkets as they do those small jars. They also do the same sizes in Relish, Tartar Sauces, various Mustards and so on. More reasons to shop at Morrison's  !

How about these little jar of body butter from the body shop?
Sure you can use that too, and make some joke that your hands are dry...
