Muscle Pass

Postby Tony Hyams » Sep 28th, '06, 14:37

Hi all

I've spent the last 2 days learning the muscle pass! (I have a very sore hand now) Please let me know if it looks ok.

That last one looked really nice. Nice job for only a few days.. a tough think to work on after the hand gets sore.

looking good. Don't worry so much on the height. I know, I know.. it can have bragging rights I guess, but the fluid movement is what is needed if you are actually going to use it for anything other than a flourish.

Hey man that's so much better than the other day. Getting there dude getting there. I know next time you see me i'll get a slap for saying this But yeah try and put some grace into it, and don't move your hand up when you do it, other wise it begins to look like a throw and not half as impressive. James Brown was showing me his the other day and his hand doesn't move and it goes up about three foot Wa**er!

a few points, if you are interested;

1. Don't put the coin in the palm with your other hand. You need to be able to get there with one hand.

2. Don't try to learn vertical motion for the first three months. Work on horizontal distance before you try to go up. When you can get about 12-18 inces horizontally, you are ready to go up.

3. Practice with your hand resting on a table. This will eliminate the tendency to 'throw' the coin for extra height.

4. Don't snatch at the coin from above. It's always better to have your hand a wee bit lower than your maximum height so the coin continues to 'fall' into it. Snatching tends to harm the illusion.

Take care, Ian

I use the muscle pass all the time but as a utility rather than a flourish, it still looks a bit stiff for that. However even a fairly poor pass is great for stuff like L'Homme Masque loads etc, that's how I employ it.

Good stuff as usual Tony you sure are a quick learner.

I've always thought the muscle pass would be good in a coins across routine; you could have the coin just appear on the specs hand without going over the top of it with your hand. I haven't tried it yet though...

As always Tony, very nice!

Now.. where does one go about learning this b*stard mother of all coin moves...?

You wont find much better anywhere and it's nothing - a rigmarole with a few bits of paper and lots of spiel. That is Mentalism
