notting, you've got a point but it's not always that simple. My boyfriend knows most of the basic mechanics but only because I use him to test all my new routines on and it's better if he knows a couple of sleights because I know if I can get a DL or a force past him I can probabaly get it past everyone.

He's said to me a few times when we've seen a magician 'that was a DL' or 'he's using a TT there' but would never expose the magician to the public.

Hmm. I don't necessarily think that 100% of magic is based on the the spectator no knowing the trick. I'd say more of it is based on the presentation and skill. A good misdirection for instance can hide the worst of pass in the world. In my opinion, exposure is hardly a problem if you know your audience and they're entertained.

There are people out there who aren't magicians and have seen the tricks done before but still feel entertained at the way another magician does performs the trick.

As for hecklers, I would just stop performing for them. Or if they try to expose me after instead. I'd just ignore them or whisper to them frankly that they're ruining it for others.

I've learned early on doing street magic for strangers not to take out the deck until you know your audience.
