 WOW!

That proves that I'm not an Elitist... I know I'm not better than most

There have been some important observations made in this thread, much of it very true; human beings are subjected to both, ego and the social mantra of "what can you do for me?" and thus, we find the two primary ingredients for creating a political structure, regardless the craft, or issue of theme.

I don't think this problem is specific to magic forums. In some academic forums I post, you see flame wars of much larger magnitudes.

 Have you ever visited a Theologist group on line?

The single most dangerous thing in the world is someone armed with an ounce of knowledge, little to no experience in said field, and the need to prove his/her self in a way that is driven by inner anger and fear vs. creativity and passion. We have seen this create World Wars upon at least two ocassions in the past 60 years

Now that Mr Browining I agree with.

It is when we start suffering from these delusions of granduar is when all of mankinds problems arise.

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.

The common thread to this art and the others mentioned above is that human beings are involved and that's where the trouble lies - some people are OK and others are complete @rses. It's tempting to suggest that lack of real skill brings on an ego attack but we've had ego problems here with well skilled professionals who think they're have the right to be immune from comment but immediately threaten legal action to back it up. Others who have disagreed with comments made on TM have just made their point and explained why they disagree and it's all been sorted quietly and without undue fuss.

One of the nice surprising thing I discovered about the magic community is that magicians in general are very likable and pleasent. When I first began in magic I was amased how approsable and friendly many leading magicians are. In most other diciplines, I am familiar with, the "elite" often are very selfimportant individuals who refuse to speak and help new commers.

In some sense we get too much credit for a lot of what we do. Magicians knows this and so when they meet fellow magicians many do not really have a strong urge for pretense!

Magic is slight of mind!
