Rubik's Cube Instant Solve

Postby smartguy42 » Jan 14th, '07, 07:01

The trick: The magician takes a scrambled Rubik's cube, gives it a few extra twists, tosses it into the air, and it comes down...completely solved.

Does anyone know what this trick is called? Also (because I assume it's not an ordinary Rubik's cube), is it worth buying?

This effect is one of the effects by Daryl invented and included is in his lecture he used in his world tour.

Effect, the magician is trying to solve rubrics qube. It does not seem to lead any where. At some stage (when the qube clearly is seen in a messy state) the magician throws the cube up in the air and when he catch it agian in is solved!!

The qube can be examined before (but not after) the effect. Nice effect and easy to do.

Other neat effects are included in the lecture e.g. an effect where a piece of clay cannot jump, suddently after a magic gesture can jump!

Magic is slight of mind!

THis effect is performed by Garrett Thomas in the 'Live at the Jailhouse' DVD that I recently reviewed and I have to say that I too thought that it's a great trick.

Does anyone know where this can be bought or does it require the lecture notes from Daryl?

It's called Enchanted Cube, I think. And it needs a real Rubik cube, it's not a purchaseable gimmick.

The effect is covered exclusively I believe in one of Daryl's notes, not sure whether it's Fooler Doolers or the Millenium notes. I can dig them out later if you're really keen. I've not come across it anywhere else. But then again, I've never been looking!

I got most of Daryl's notes from (ashamedly) Penguin a good deal of years back, so there would be a good place to hunt. Some priceless stuff, as Soren says.

Yep... it's in the Millennium lecture notes.

I can't find a UK dealer, perhaps you'll be able to get them from Penguin still. Failing that, try Daryl's own site.

Wow! Well, Russell, you're up to £32,000... BUT WE DONT WANNA GIVE YOU THAT!

Well, I certainly stand corrected. I wasn't aware this was a commercial gimmick, as the method from Daryl's as I recal uses a standard cube.

Nice find ;)

Rubik's Cube

Postby DrTodd » Jan 14th, '07, 17:58

I have been performing this for at least 20 years now. It is really great and is usually my opening effect as it often silences the room. The cube starts out mixed. I show how the sides can be turned and tell a story about a friend of mine from high school who used to put vaseline in his cube to speed up his solving it. I always thought that was funny, since as a magician, I merely need to throw it up in the air and down it comes solved. 10 seconds, tops!

Mine is by Craig Nichols (from Phoenix Arizona) and is called the Enchanted Cube. I bought it for $6 (20 years ago!).

I bought mine from Daryl and it's a gimmicked cube.
It was a well known trick back in the 1980's, apparently, and all the magicians bought standard cubes and doctored them for this effect.

Yeah, I was saying that as far as I remember, the book uses a regular cube rather than having to BUY a gaffed one.

I'll dig it out later methinks and have a good read, considering the recent Rubik olympics ;)

Thanks for all the help everyone.

I will most likely buy the trick, but if it really can be done with a regular cube...wow. I would definetely want to get those lecture notes.
