So you only have a normal deck of cards with you...

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

I normally start off with something stupid like just fixing the deck and dealing myself four aces or something. Then I might go into A Poker Player's Picnic, then I do some three card monte, then two card monte, then Design for Laughter, and finally Ambitious Ace Through Five.

On Saturday afternoon I was minding my own business in the pub, practicing a new technique for moving a block of cards around in a stripper deck, while everyone was watching the footy. The block I was using just happened to be kings. Half time and someone asked to see something, so I sent the block to the top and performed Poker Player's Picnic, from a shuffled deck. 8)

I shall do this by mentioning that top international magician Paul Potassy uses nothing but stripper decks at every performance. He purchased a lifetime supply from a dealer in Chicago decades ago and does not use regular cards at all.

That's very kind of you, Mark.

I must get a wholesale price for USPCC factory-stripped decks...

The first thing that always comes into my mind if someone hands me a deck of cards is triumph.

Sorry, obviously it is akin to out of this world, but the way i know that trick is the handling is all done by the performer, in DFerrens version its all the spectator, so the method must be different

I have to admit that triumph is a trick at the front of my mind when ask for a trick.

Altho James Brown's - card opener, is what I'm practising at the minute. I love it- its fun and has got plenty of elements in it. Hopefully I can get it to a decent standard soon for when asked to show a trick.

In fact I'm hoping to get most of his Still fancy a pot of jam material sorted. It has some of the best impromptu tricks I've come across on one DVD.

Can anybody please help me? I'm having terrible problems controlling my streetmagic- I can't walk down a street without turning into a pub.

I contains some of the most original and interesting card magic you'll ever see. The thing he does with the pictures is exactly the same method he shares for his version of Out Of This World in DPB. In DPB it's a card trick, but in Trick Of The Mind he does it with a very different presentation even though it's the same trick.

Cheers, is that a book or DVD, greetings from a fellow yam yam btw

Or should i say

usually if someone asks me to do a trick I just get them to pick a card, then I shuffle it into the deck and turn over the top card and act really confident and tell them that it is their card, but it inst. then I shapeshifter it into their card. Its simple but it gets awesome reactions. I did it to my friends the other day and they weren't expecting very much and they thought I screwed up but they freaked out at the shapeshifter. Now they think Im the son of the devil

Exactly, the method is different but it is the same effect!! For example most of us have our own ACR but it is still the same effect.

On his Devils Picturebook dvd. Derren performs and explains his version (using playing cards) of OOTW whereby there is no stopping during the effect and (well you know what  )

I assume this version with photos uses the same principal, although i am sure DB likes messing with magicians too!!

I ALWAYS open with a few Sandwich bits combined into one. I love Sandwich routines and use them all the time. I then, if a table is available, go into Joshua Jay's Trumped Triumph, which is by far the best Triumph routine out there. I suggest you look that one up!

After all of that, I go into my own creations, which are normally Sense Of Touch, Turnover Deck, and Into The Past.

By the way, anyone have any good Sandwich routines.? I have been trying to create my own but so far, no success. Any? I always do Sanswitch, Iain Moran's Monkey Business, and the first phase of Aaron Fisher's Fish Sandwich.

Thank you!

Michael, get The Cullfather. A flawless sandwich routine is on the DVD aswell as teaching you how to cull. Google it. There is also a review on this forum somewhere.

Thank you for the recommendation. I will look into it. Mr. Moran is a very supportive and kind when it comes to young magicians such as myself. When I had problems at the Cafe, he emailed me with his sympathy.
