Rule #1 in filming magic: Never hire a camerman who might f*** up the illusion.

Well, I'm sorry to say this, if you post a vid you are inviting critisism.

Your handling there was appaling. I think you need several months more practice. The fingers of your hands closed together totally covered everything which was happening. It needs to be much more open, between fingers and thumbs so things can be seen.

The way you held the gimmicked card at the beginning gave everything away. You have to lighten up considerably. You should be holding it as if its a playing card, not a valuable ingot of gold.

The other thing is your lack of knowledge of angles. Don't blame the cameraman. If you knew your angles on such a simple effect as this you wouldn't be caught out. This is purely down to lack of correct practice, and knowledge of angles for the trick you are performing. Get in front of a mirror.

To be brutally honest, I do this effect anywhere between 10-100 times a week and have done so for over 15yrs. You have a long way to go, to be average at performing this. You must practice properly before going public.

Get your hands open so people can see what is happening. Practice properly. Learn revealing angles so you aren't caught out.

*Reaper*...

I honestly believe in your enthusiasm, and your willingness to prove yourself as a magician...but this is really too much, too soon.

Take a look over the multitude of magic bids on Youtube, and pick out all the ones that you can critisise (there'll be loads!). Now I'm not - in any way saying that you're at that kind of level...but now pick out the ones that blow you away (that don't have the words 'exposed' or 'tutorial' in the title).

In fairness, you're probably in the lower-middle, with your performance here, and it's really a crying shame that you haven't signed-up with a local magical group, as I really think you'd benefit from this

As has been pointed out already, if you think that a recorded performance might expose - and this does - , please keep it off Youtube (or, at least, make sure that the title and keywords you give it are totally unrealated to magic; that way, you can still post the link here without having to worry that laymen are able to suss the method).

Your enthusiasm shows you have potential, and I really applaud your determination...but always ask here for guidance (and listen to it), if you feel you need to :D

All the best, young chap!

Rob

To be honest, you need to work on your delivery too. If you sound disinterested then how can you expect others to be exited by it?

"Put dat dere like dis....kay?"

I respect you for putting it up on here and for a young person's first attempt at filming an effect I commend you, but I would seriously film it a few times, watch your angles and pick the best performance. The one that does not reveal the method.

Good luck.

The comments are all correct, but I have not posted a vid so I am keeping my comments to myself :)

I can only echo what Tenko and others have already said. Not really much more to add. Practice and more practice! Then practice some more!
