Perhaps a simple Ambitious card routine, with a signed card.
Cig thru card

Somthing with cards to start, most people assosiate Magicians, with cards.

Don't know if this helps?

Probably what i would do.

then move onto like ID, or somthing? then you can do coins, and other prop tricks

does this help?

regards, J'

Where do you walk around?
Is it mainly mingling in bars?

Tell me more about the venue you work in and the effects included in your existing routines......I like to open with something visual, mindless, fun, and interactive.....cups and balls, foam balls, ninja rings, simple silk-TT work, etc.....

i do my walkaround mostly on business parties (for example a christmas party of a major German Bank) with around 100 up to 300 people

my routines involve:
a special version of the three card monte (not the find the card...)
some rope and coin manipulations
sometimes some spongies if kids are around...

i don't like to do anything with cigarettes cuz it's just not something i believe should be used to seem "cool" or "nice"

i was thinking about it today and some things came to my mind:
a coin produced in the middle of two free chosen cards...
a flash deck production..

the coin between two cards is nice cuz its stunning for laymen but involves the spec from the beginning...

flash deck.. well if there is no candle it doesn't work ^^

any more suggestions?

Don't limit the foam ball work to kids....its a great fun icebreaker at cocktail dinner parties....if you are thinking coin and cards....one thought that comes to mind is "In a flash" by Sankey....not sure if it would be something I would open with personally but could be made to work

I might just get a signature that says this: Crazy Man's Handcuffs.

The artist who does not rise, descends.

Bronz is referring you to an effect called Crazy Man's Handcuffs. It's a rubber band effect that, when mastered, is a close-up, impromptu miracle. It can be found on Jay Sankey's Magic that Anyone can do set. In a Flash is another Sankey effect where a coin burns through a deck to a selected card.

Currently Reading "House of Mystery" (Abbott, Teller), Tarbell, Everything I can on busking

In a quick sentence or two....signed coin is wrapped in tissue paper and then lit on fire....it burns holes right through the deck and stops at the selected signed card.....good effect to do on both one or two people....I use it in my "street magic" routines all the time....

if you own the sankey sanders sessions on disc#2 there is a great little visual trick by jay thats very simple but if used well, very deceptive it involves taking a little piece of a card that u already have and sticking it onto a forced card, saying it looks like a hole, then if you say watch ill bend it, or shake it w.e, put it back on the deck you can show it has a real hole, and then of course say its an illusion, do the 'move' again and give them the card they chose fully intact and they'll spend the whole evening fiddling with that card....

or just do a muscle pass.... :D

bah humbug...

I think sponge balls would be a great way to open. As I found out at the weekend they really are a great way to grab the attention. Everyone's seen card and coin tricks but sponges I think are something different and look interesting, we always seem to think they're cheesy but I wonder how many specs have ever seen a well performed sponge routine.

Too true Lady....

I have found a new passion for them again and they are always fun....adults or kids. And for an opener they fit all my personal criteria...fast, visual, fun, interactive, and mindless
