Christmas Songs......

Postby Totally Mental » Dec 10th, '07, 17:17

As *that* day is nearing, the radio stations start playing at least one Christmas Song per hour, and the shops are full of them - non stop!

So....

What is your favourite Christmas song, and which one do you hate the most.

If I was forced to choose a favourite one it would be Fairy Tale of New York.

As for my most hated - anything with any of the following:
Cliff Richard....
Children....
Ex Beatles....
any combination of the above.

Yeah, the Pogues by a mile. Followed by Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses. In third place that song by Chris DeBurgh about Jesus being an alien. I only like it coz I think that's probably what happened.

Fairytale of New York always reminds me of ice-skating in Central Park on Christmas Eve. Pure bliss.

The Pogues is def one of my favourites and my missus' favourite is that one by Mariah Carey - "All I Want For Christmas is You".

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

I forget the title of my fave chrimbo tune; it's by a female performer who sings it in a dreary, atonal 1980's kind of way. She's all kind of 'bah humbug' because she's single and lonely, but then she meets some dude in a supermarket while buying a turkey or something.

Yep, that's Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses - my 2nd fave! And on the Ze Records label - the label of hip New York during the 1980's (home to an early Was (Not Was) and Kid Creole - before he upped sticks to live in Doncaster. Sometimes truth is weirder than fiction).

I like a lot of the tunes by Trans Siberian Orchestra

Wizards In Winter and Christmas Eve/Sarajevo are my two favorites.

Merry F**king Christmas by Mr Garrison on Mr Hankey's Christmas Classics album. That and December Will Be Magic Again by Kate Bush, mainy because Kate Bush can do no wrong but I generally hate all christmas songs. Not really that fond of christmas either!

Fairytale of New York is the absolute best! There's a fantastic BBC3 documentary.. a whole hour on that one song and how it became what it now is! I'm sure that it'll be doing the rounds this year again.. it's such a treat.

LeftEye, that IS the Fairytale Of New York.

Now to show my age.

Apart from Fairytale, I also like:

Merry Christmas Everybody and I wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday.

The most "Christmassy" one is "I Believe In Father Christmas."

Even Seige would have liked the tape I had of it. The B side had a song which was about 4 minutes of music with the word "Humbug" repeated throughout!

Each year there are reports about suicide rates going up over Christmas.
Each year there are reports Cliff Richard will releas a record at Christmas.

Any link I wonder?

That'd be Fairytale of New York.

When I was playing in the folk band, that's all we'd ever get asked to play at christmas. Sometimes two or three times in the same gig. Still, made a nice change from all the Danny Boy or Whiskey in the Jar requests we'd normally get.
