Is there a method for doing this?

Postby babyshanks » Feb 10th, '08, 18:17

I need to find a way of looking like your placing a deck in it's box but your actually not. Are there any good ways of doing this? The only way I can think of is putting one card in the box pretending its the deck but this has pretty bad angles.

So, can anyone help? :D

If you hold the card case in your right hand, with the flap open and the flap side of the case upwards, that is shading the opening of the case, you can appear to be placing the deck into the box, when you are actually placing the deck under the box.

Tuck the flap in, and pull the case away from the deck into your left hand. Let your right hand slowly fall to your side and place the case on the table or in some other convenient location.

Body turn away from the deck location and allow the entire deck to drop into your right trouser or jacket pocket. Make sure you look only at the case when you do this.

Do not actually say, "I will put the cards into the case. Now I will place them on the table." If you do, the spectators will burn your right hand. Just be casual.

Why not actually PUT the deck in the box... then find a way to get it out

I'm sure you could gimmick a card case to do the trick.

There's a single card which was in the gaffed Bikes selection a while back and which looks like a full deck if viewed from the right angle. I can't for the life of me remember which set of special cards it was in but your friendly www.cards4magic.co.uk or equivalent might be able to advise.

Gregory Wilson has a great way of performing this effect a couple of different times in the same routine. I believe it's on his "Card Stunts" video. I definitely recommend it to you.

And of course the sublime Art of Astonishment number one has a couple of ways of doing variations of this.
