Funny topic ... at least for me.
What to say after having splitted roundabout 2000 cards the last year?
TRY TRY TRY ... get the knack ... and the further on it will work like a charm.

Always keep in mind if the spec will HANDLE the cards or not. There are different ways to reach Rome.

Think? THINK!

Hi and thanks for your first posting! In view of your particular skills, if there are any tips you feel you can pass on, please let us know. Gaffed cards are always of interest for obvious reasons and it's good to hear from a professional!

I agree with Card Maker. It's a practice thing. Bikes and other 3-ply cards (as I mention earlier in the thread) are easiest.

There is definately a knack - and it revolves around patience. The 'water' suggestion should help most people!

Two of the layers are waterproof-ish, and the middle part is NOT. Therefore, by carefully apply water and 'teasing' the cards apart, you will succeed - eventually.

Be patient!!!!

Thought you might like to know that I have now tried the method specified in "Likity Split."

I flicked through the pamphlet briefly a couple of weekends ago. I did not read it in detail and I did not read the bits on manufacturing fakes.

Last night I decided to have a go at splitting a card. I did not go back and reread the booklet. I have never tried to split a card before.

My first attempt was to peel the back from a Bicycle card. This failed, as a small tear along the edge meant I wouldn't be able to continue.

As I had not gone very far, I decided to try peeling off the face of the same card.

It came off entirely cleanly and I now have the face of a seven of spades ready for use elsewhere.

The "Likity Split" method does not involve any soaking whatsoever. You just take the card, follow the method and off comes the face or back.

Splitting Cards

Postby dat8962 » Feb 7th, '04, 19:55

If this is the Color Fusion DVD that you're referring to, then instructions on how to split the card are included. It takes practice to get a good look to the finished card and you need to leave the glue to dry overnight before using the gimmicked card.

As everyone will tell you - there's no substitute for practice and it took me about a full deck of cards to perfect the split, but they were still good enough after about half a deck's cutting to fool everyone I performed on.

On another note, the American products used in the DVD can all be purchased in the UK under different brand names. I use a craft knife and a Pritt or UHU glue STICK and have never had any problems.

I've soaked cards in the past and it doesn't help me peel them and the cards seem to warp when they dry out which means that they can look odd when compared to the rest of a deck.

I have started making some gaffs just for fun and practice...

How can I make a blank face?

If I want to make a trap door card, what is good to use as a hinge? sheet rubber?

Has anyone tried to shim them?

Peace,
WT

YES! THAT'S IT!!!! The K N A C K!!!!!
Just got an order of 200 cards and, you guess ..., I splitted these DRY. I wouldn't dare to sell wet-splitted cards. Have you ever taken a ruler and measured a "normal card" and in comparsion a wet one? No? The KNACK - not SOOO difficult, but hey, there have to be some guys 'n gals out there to this job for YOU!

I do alot of wet stripping, and they do tend to expand, but once they dry, they do shrink back down to size

Have you had good results with wet splitting then ben?

Personally, I've given up on wet splitting and reverted to dry splitting. So much less fuss.

All the best,
