Not really I just thought I was on youtube there.

Seriously though I have found it all very interesting and not what I expected. To be honest I thought it was more about throwing some cards onto the table and telling you what is going to happen in the future based on those cards. But an aspect I've found very interesting is they can aid meditation and there are reports of Buddhists using them for this.

I'm still only on the first excercise from the book, but I'm just gonna work my way slowly through the material and see how things work out. Makes a very interesting read if nothing else.

This kind of open engagement and learning are what I like to see

For some real eye-opening stuff check out Donald Tyson's Portable Magic

Glad you found the EE stufff helpful...it is sure a different way of looking at the Tarot...for a more symbolic view, see Rachel Pollack's 78 Degrees of Wisdom (what a great title).

Cheers Dr Todd, I'll be sure to check those out. I would like a more in-depth look the symboligy. EE's material is nice but I'd like a bit more info about the cards themselves as well as what each card means to the reader.

Can anybody please help me? I'm having terrible problems controlling my streetmagic- I can't walk down a street without turning into a pub.

Before advising a new tarot card reader to pick up "78 Degrees of Wisdom", I would recommend them tipping their toes in the water slgihtly more tentatively at first.

"78 Degrees of Wisdom" is a fantastic book, but it may be a little hard going for someone who is new to the game. Personally I would recommend a book like "Tarot Plain & Simple" by Anthony Louis or "The Tarot Bible". Then spend a year doing readings (not solidly of course. You are allowed to eat and sleep at some point.), and then get a copy of "78 Degrees".

I'm not sure what style of cards you're using Wills, but "78 Degrees", "Tarot Plain & Simple" and "The Tarot Bible" are all based around Rider Waites. You can't go wrong with Rider Waites or decks based on Rider Waites (Morgan Greers and Robin Woods being the best of the bunch).

Agreed...78 is comprehensive and may be daunting...got over excited there!

Portable Magic is something entirely different!

Definitely "Tarot Plain & Simple" is a really great book. I'd steer clear of Morgan Greers cos compared to the Rider Waite you only get half a pictorial scene on each card.

The Universal Rider Waite in my opinion for the beginner.. unless the beginner has some knowledge or interest in any of the themes that some decks are designed around, eg Buddhism, Astrology, Egyption and thousands of others no doubt. That way the new Tarot information can be pegged to existing knowledge.
