I'm leaving

Postby Ace of diamonds » Aug 17th, '08, 12:00

Because of an earlier comment that was posted in one of my theards regarding me having a lack of knowledge on a certain magician, which was then said because of this I can't be a working professional, I have decided to leave TM. Also, another statement was made about my Xbox. I have come to this decision because I feel that if I am being percieved as what the comments said about this user are true, then I feel there is no place for me on these forums. If for whatever reason you would like to contact me regarding my departure then feel free to e-mail on verndaman@hotmail.co.uk.

Anyway, thank you all for having me here at talkmagic and to those who have given me some very insightful advice. However, these are clearly not the boards for me.

I hope other working pros like taffy and other hopefuls like Deviant go far and become very successfull. Love you!

I wouldn't let one person's opinion get on top of you - I'm sure that there are plenty of magicians out there who wouldn't recognise Lennart Green too.
I've heard of him - but until now, I wouldn't have been able to pick him out of a line-up.
So long as you're good at, what does it matter :? .

I can just see it now - you've just wowed your audience with an impressive display when one of them asks, "yeah, but I bet you don't know who Lennart Green is" (hmm ... okay, maybe they wouldn't ask this  ).

It's not like the whole of TM has jumped on you - hey, I'm with you on this one and I personally wouldn't leave because of one person's opinion on the matter  .

EDIT: Oh and by the way, I can't see the problem with the comment about your X-Box. I'm 42 years old and my missus got us a Wii a few months ago and at the mo I'm well 'n' truly hooked on Mario Go-Kart. I'm gonna be playing it on-line soon, so if anyone wants to have a go at me - feel free  .

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

So your leaving because a few people made stupid comments. Magic is very subjective. And while I've watched Lennert Green perform on many occaisons. Had a very enjoyable chat with him I would not call him the greatest card magician, or the messiah of cards. He is very good better then most of us and very innovative but there are some amazing magicians out there who outshine Mr Green in pure performing style.

But this is not a thread about Lennert Green or Xbox. I love Xbox but I must admit to being a convert to PS3. I got it because of the Blue ray but that is neither here nor there.

Its a message board don't let these folks get you down, heck if you can't stand up in here in front of a bunch of faceless folk and most likely arm chair magicians then you are going to have a really hard time in front of an audience.

And just maybe you don't know who Lennert Green is because you are spending the majority of your time living life to the fullest and performing magic rather then watching others? Nothing wrong with that is there?

EDIT: I am also 42 and once I get playing PS3 (full metal gear at the moment) you have to pry the controller out of my cold dead hands.

Hang on just a minute. I didn't say you couldn't be a working professional, I simply pointed out that I found it strange that you are a WP yet cannot recognise Lennart Green. I'm not calling into question your employment status.

Don't leave TM just because I made some remarks - what do I know anyway? When I joined this forum I was almost chased off by some idiot who is now no longer around so I really don't want to do that to anyone else. Plus it would make you look rather weak-willed, wouldn't it? You're really going to leave a forum that has at least 50 very regular contributers just because I made a snide comment about your games console?

Seriously, I apologise. I'm a bitch sometimes, but you've got to have a bit more backbone than that. How do you deal with hecklers??!

I think thing's that make you feel put down only make you stronger, so I do believe you should stay on board and show people you are more than just an xbox player and someone who know's nothing about other magicians, stand up and show us what your all about. I did see the thread earlier but I just feel it was something that went a little overboard and I'm not here to judge who was right and wrong that's that my place and I really don't have anything to say on that but I don't think you should leave the boards because of it. Also I have 3 Nintendo ds, Nintendo Wii and an xbox 360 and Xbox live is great especially gears of war but I have time for magic and time for my other hobbies just like everyone else but I'm here to discuss magic the same as everyone else so stand up ,forget about, it stay on board and TALKMAGIC

I have some catching up to do. I have a dreamcast, although I've no idea where it is now, an xbox and Ps3 and a host of computer games.

A of D, if you're still reading these posts mate, ...come back!

And in all honesty if I was to bump into Lennart Green I would not know him from Adam! Not saying I do not know who he is (As I do)but just would not recognise him! So what? I still make a very successful living from being a working pro, and I guess the same applies to AoD!

If I bumped into Lennart I would faint with excitement. The man is a genius. However, I guess if your not a card man, although AoD does sound like you might be, it is not to bad to not know the man.

However, if you made this thread to see how many people to try and persuade you to stay, (in dragon's den fashion), "I'm Out."
It can be a tough'n'rough ride with all different opinions and attitudes and you have to deal with them. If you can't, I guess it is best you leave.

I'm sure that as a worker you would have had worse comments that what has been written in another thread, despite you perhaps taking them out of context from how they were intended.

We all get some 'words of wisdom' from others from time to time that may hit a nerve but part of being a magician is about picking yourself up and getting on with it.

Going because of something so trivial is ultimately going to be your loss. Stick around and show that you're bigger than the comments.

After thinking about what happened and looking around for other magic forums (couldn't find any that were as good as this) I decided that if I were to leave it would make me quite frankly look like a puff. I realised that if I am going join a forum which contains over 12,000 people then there will be a whole range of views and from time to time there is a high chance you will dislike some. So sorry for taking things a bit seriously, I really need to loosen up. Even my girlfriend calls me a drama queen (the bitch). But I just need to get into my head that not everyone thinks the same way I do. Oh, and queen of clubs there is no need for an apology I am the one who should be saying sorry for taking things way out of context. You, on other hand were only expressing your views which you are entilted to. So, expect to be seeing me around the boards agin and let's forget all this ever happened.

Oh don't worry about storming off in a huff. After all even the big names in magic do it. You should have seen what I did to Jamy Ian Swiss yesterday. He tried to advise me on how to do a card trick. I informed him that I was doing it correctly since I was MARK LEWIS and he wasn't. I have never seen anyone disappear so quickly.

On the other hand I met Richard Kaufmann who made the sign of the cross at me and exclaimed "Satan!" I seem to have a very odd effect on people.

On the other hand I met the infamous Michael Kras who was as quiet as a mouse. He was terribly polite and when he realised who I was he went as white as a sheet.

As for Lennart Green you are must fortunate never to have heard of him. I have explained on the other hand that he is as interesting as watching paint dry.
