Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

From what I understand, the particles won't colide intill at least a week from now, even though the machine has already been utrned on
I'm not that afraid of it due to what I understand to be true about it. I just think its a waste of money. Just my opinion though...

The particles won't collide until I think October, and even those will be small collisions. They haven't even tested a particle going counter-clockwise, so the collisions will still take a while.

Just a thought, if this is the Large Hadron Collider, where's the small one and what's it doing right now? Perhaps that's the one we ought to worry about, probably hidden inside a ring doughnut in a remote Krispy Kreme display case.......

Quality - that made me giggle  .

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

A tonne of liquid helium sounds sounds VERY expensive. Mind you, why call the fire brigade when they could just open a vent in the roof and wait fro it to sublimate to gas? :D

It's either a sign from God, or faulty construction.

I really hope it's God because I don't want to hear some of the world's brightest scientists, trying to assure us it's safe, can't construct a giant death machine properly.

Ah and fairie, the world will end in the 22nd, or 23d of decemeber 2012 according to the myans..so

Well, it is one of the largest and most complex machines ever made, so a few teething problems is fine by me if we get to know how mass works.

Yay! All eight segments of the LHC are once again cooled to just over absolute zero meaning that the machine is ready to play cosmic peashooters.

There are some serious scientists who think that the failure of the collider earlier this year was no accident. They think that nature has somehow jumped back in time to sabotage the collider in order to safeguard itself.

Those serious scientists cant be serious can they?

They're saying then that nature is a conscious force, that it is aware of all events in the world today and is making sure nothing happens that may threaten it's very existence. IF thats the case, why did it let the Manhattan Project go ahead? We're still living under the threat of extinction through Nuclear Holocaust, and Korea and Iran are bringing their pieces to the board now.

Just as Hawking wrongly assumed there was a law in physics to prevent time travel, so with this.

I remember when that machine was turned on. I was working at the time, and there were a bunch of odd balls there saying they were ' wrong to mess with that stuff '.

It seems to me theres a great number of people who want humans to regress rather than progress.

Nuclear war might well threaten the human species, but it's hardly a threat to the universe.

I quite like the idea of the Higgs boson rippling back in time to prevent its own discovery. Not saying I believe it, but I like it.
