Who likes music?

Postby Ian The Magic-Ian » Sep 23rd, '08, 03:07

I started the book thread and why not start this. I have an odd musical taste and I wondered what everyone else's was. For instance, I like Sweeney Todd on the flip-side I like Maylene and the Son's of Disaster (feel free to google them, you won't like them.)

So I'm interested in how broad everyone else's musical views. So this may be an old, repeat thread, but... Here it goes.

List your five favorite bands and your five favorite songs by them, it doesn't have to be in any specific order, but it can be and refer one song to look up from this group: :

AFI- But Home is nowhere...

My Chemical Romance- Demolition Lovers

(This is the song I highly suggest looking up) Bright Eyes- Waste of Paint

Streetlight Manifesto- A Moment of Silence (If you have time this one also)

The Sound Of Animals Fighting- Act 1: Chasing Suns

You don't have to but I like finding new music I like and if you have a strange taste in music go ahead and post, if not... go ahead and post.

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

Okay... I like groups like Flogging Molly to Hatebreed and everything in between.

5 Favs:

System of A Down--Chop Suey

Powerman 5000--Ultra Mega

Mudvayne--World So Cold

Nightwish--The Kinslayer

bydeathsdesign--Icarus

...Alright, it's not quite fair since the last group is a local band here in Las Vegas. I do like there stuff, though.

NoMeansNo - Dark Ages
Naked Raygun - Metastasis
Leatherface - Small Yellow Chair
The Cramps - Call of the Wighat
Girls Against Boys - Bulletproof Cupid

But it's not really fair, because I have lots of favourite bands, and even more favourite songs. It depends on the mood of the moment...

Seen Maylene and the Sons of Diaster live, they were pretty good!

My favourite bands tend to change with my mood, but these are the five I always find myself returning to:

1. Faith No More - Midlife Crisis
2. Hell Is For Heroes - Models For The Programme
3. Nine Inch Nails - Ruiner
4. Alabama 3 - Sad Eyed Lady of the Low Life
5. Norma Jean - Blueprints For Future Homes

I'm glad! Not many people appreciate them these days!

It's probably because they're local and I briefly knew one or two of the guys associated with him, Richard Tandy and Trevor Burton being two of them - we were at the same school and I saw their early efforts at peforming!

Oooh, ok, why not...

I don't really have "favourite" bands, I just have musicians I like in different ways, so here's 5 I've just pulled out of my... er... somewhere...

Johnny Cash - Man in Black

Tom Waits - I Don't Wanna Grow Up

Neko Case - Deep Red Bells

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Cabron

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Gates to the Garden

I've got a last fm profile for anyone interested in what I've been listening to. its not totally accurate as it doesn't keep track off the vinyl. If it had that there would probably be a bit more doom metal.

I find this stuff fascinated because, as a city boy, the big thing around here is 'Urban' music, and while it's just a name, it really does seem to be Urban because taste is not the same outside of the capital.

In fact, I don't know so many people who listen to the kinds of music you guys list - it really is so dominated by hiphop/R&B here.

My personal taste in music is a little diverse ranging from light acoustic 'rock' kind of stuff, through soul and neo-soul (soul being old classic stuff and neo-soul is new age soul - not quite as generic and simple as R&B), to types of jazz and a quite specific selection of hiphop.

But you're all quite different to my own selection.
umm... I have the Fort Minor CD?

Not underground stuff (although i used to be into that a lot), but it's more based on content.

Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Lupe Fiasco, The Roots (brilliant - live band!), Common - those are the main ones that I'll still listen to.
