Double Direct Transpo

Postby Scriptorilsky » Dec 6th, '08, 20:45

Hello dear TM members, I just put up a new video on youtube. It's an effect called "Double Direct Transpo", inspired by Marlo's "Direct Transposition" and some of the classic Lennart Green's moves. So, here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bzu9OEgYBTk and Ihope you will enjoy watching the video. Comments are welcome.

Salute!

Extremely Angle Sensitive. I thought it was good. I didn't like all the shuffling so much but it was mostly good. Except where you DL to tenkai, that could've been smoother but, I'm not one to critsize tenkai. I thought it was good, could be a bit shorter but the sleights were good.

This is a good example of perfect for youtube videos, it seems like it would be more difficult for a live audience...

Ah well.. Good Job!

Barton: Have you read the Bible, Pete?
Pete: Holy Bible?
Barton: Yeah.
Pete: Yeah, I think so. Anyway, I've heard about it.

I really enjoyed that, the Lateral P***ing was very well executed.
The one criticism I have of it is, there is a lot of pointless shuffles and distractions that take away from the trick.

You should economise your movements and make it cleaner to watch.
In Strong Magic, Ortiz suggests you write out each individual stage of the effect, all of them, including the small ones like "Pick up deck" and go through and eliminate all those that don't add to the effect.

As for what Ian said, it is angle sensitive, but then so is most of Lennart Green's work, so if you're seated at a table in front of an audience, you're fine!

Excellent stuff!

EDIT: Also, it's very important to make each climax better than the last (as my girlfriend knows  ). Really make sure that you save best 'till last! I thought the transpo between the two packets was brilliant and by far my favourite!

My personal problem with this routine is that it's easy to follow what you're doing. This is partly because I use tenkai and lateral palms quite a lot, and so I know what they look like, but I think even a layman watching this would know *something* is the matter.

It doesn't matter if the spectator knows what you've just done or not, if they see something suspicious, it kills the climax for them, because you've clearly done something funny with those cards when you put them down.

I'd really like to see you film this effect being performed for someone.

Each to their own, but it does nothing for me. Too much shuffling and much too angle sensitive for practical use. And as the Ooop North meet members will say, I hate a poor DL.

Thank you for your comments. I should have emphasized in the first post that this is by no means a routine. It's just an idea that I got combining some of the moves and ideas of Ed Marlo and Lennart Green. So, that's why it's so messy and illogic(?) ("pointless shuffles and distractions that take away from the trick"). It would take much more work to make it a thorugh routine.

Lenoir, thank you for your kind advice, I have read Strong Magic, as well as Nelms and some other books on the subject of psychology of deception etc. :)

The angles are sensitive, but no more than any other close-up effect that utilizes LP and tenkai.

Tenko, I wouldn't say this is a poor DL. The handling of the double being prepared for the next move after the dl is a bit awkward but the dl itself is ok, at least in my opinion. Of course, this is not a dl you would use in an ACR, as it doesn't look very natural but I think it works for an effect like this.

I remember seeing something very similar by Ed Marlo in his Confidential video. I really enjoy videos of just pure sleight of hand like this which many people would take for granted as being easy !

I really enjoyed it though, would love to see some more.
