About a decade back my family and I were living in a place just outside the city limits of Springfield, Ohio that is listed as one of the most haunted private homes in the state. It was quite an interesting experience to say the least; hearing singing and piano music at 4 a.m. almost nightly or children playing ball out in the courtyard. But there are a few other facts around this place...
It was a clinic during the huge cholera epidemic in the late 1800s in which numerous people past away (especially children)
On the same property, just north of the house itself, was a fair sized cemetary which was "moved" in the 1970s, when the highway was widened.
A young lad had drowned on the property at the swimming hole to the back end of the now existing property line.
A runaway slave was caught by slave hunters on site and lynched; hung by the neck in an old oak just behind the barn (the home was a stop over for the old Underground Railroad).
There are other tales and historic factors around the home but just in these key points we find plenty of reason to believe it really is haunted. But adding to the mix is the fact that I knew nothing of the house's history when we first moved in... I lived there for two weeks by my self, cleaning and preparing the place for the rest of the crew to move in... I was the first to hear the sounds and notice certain phenomena... then, when Marcy and the kids moved in, without my saying a word, they started talking about the very same manifestations happening at the same time of night and in the same rooms as I'd noticed. Something that visiting guests likewise picked up on.
As I said, it was quite the experience and most of it was pure fun.
