A lot of bands now give their music away for free, anyway, because they are well aware that people are just going to download it anyway if they want it, and who can blame them?

You make a good point, but I can't see MagicalSmithy paying out to see bands live either :)

Downloading the odd song from time to time is fair enough, we all do it, but to deliberately refuse to buy any music at all because it's (illegally) available on youtube in its inferior quality? That's just being a dick

I'd download their albums for free in a heartbeat if only I could stand the sound of them.

I might weigh in at around 200lb but I would not survive a Metalica concert....hell I would have trouble escaping an Eltong John Gig with my Dignity intact.

I survived front row at a Slayer gig, but with a lot of bruises across the bottom of my ribcage, hehe. It's easier at the front though, cos you don't get slammed around, just crushed. Oh... and entertained :)

Mate at 200 pounds you'd well survive, just pick up the pace!!! Remember m1v1 + m2v2 = m1v3 +m2v4 and assuming your heavier and moving faster it means they are flat on their back!!! Physics, you can't beat it!

^ Do it but top tip is not to spend too much time in the Gym as you need to be out pounding the streets.

Excellent point well made.

I am currently downloading Greg Wilson and Michael Ammar DVDs from a torrent because they both have loads of money.*

I never realised that how much money an artist had was the indicator if it was socially acceptable to steal their work or not.

Thanks for the tip.

*NB For the slow-witted, I am - of course - not stealing their work. I was being sarcastic as this thread has kinda disturbed me.

The whole downloading music for free type thing is a bit of a swampy issue. For me, being in a band that hasn't 'made it' means for every git that downloads something they dont pay for means i cant have beans on toast that week, for people like Metallica well........i remember the big thing they had going with Napster. They upset a lot of people doing that.

I admire someone like Trent Reznor from a band called Nine Inch Nails. He's made it big, got his money, and to this end released his last two albums ( Ghosts and The Slip ) for free from his web site. Like Queen Of Clubs says, he makes his money through touring, t shirts and other things beginning with T.

As for magic, unless you're David Blaine you cant hope to see the kind of cash musicians like Metallica do, so its a bit off to be stealing their creations.

It's not really swampy. Don't steal copyrighted material. Full stop.

And just for the record, Mr Reznor certainly doesn't make all his money through touring and merch. He took 750k in 3 days SELLING copies of the album he had personally leaked to torrent sites!

Admittedly, they were very limited edition copies with unbelievably cool (if you're a fan) extras.
