It's a great vid if you can get it - only in NTSC format and only via his website after negotiating the entry questions - then some PayPal wonga to pay for it! All the routines are performed and then very fully explained, many are just mind blowing and this is the stuff he no longer does commercially. Apart from the one he did with Stephen Fry last week.

And I don't doubt that a few more will crop up in the rest of the series!

I liked the look at an object in your room...

I was like oh colourful papers on my right, and the he says 'you'll probably look at something colourful to your right'. so i shift to look at a white candle on my left, and derren says 'knowing this you'll probably look left at something dull'

I was caught out bad..

See these links for a few reviews of The Devil's Picturebook...

I've got it and think it's great. The video is split into card magic and mentalism magic. If either of these interest you, I suggest you consider purchasing it. I don't use all the effects from it, but i use a few. Worth the money for me...

Oh and the objects in a room? I think it was the way that I was sitting.. it actually looked to the left at a fairly dull magic magazine!

If there is any chance that one of you guys could help me out with a copy of this fantastic series I'd really appreciate it - Spain - not quite as far away as New Zealand but far enough to miss out on gems like this.

Any offers of help would be REALLY appreciated

Can't see any comments about last week's programme (which is probably repeated tonight if you missed it) but the nail in the nose thing was just awful. In the Mind Control series (as on the DVD currently promoted) Derren refers to the time he got a guy to stick a hypodermic needle through the loose skin on the back of the hand and Derren said it made him feel squeamish. So how can he now just hammer a nail in his head?

As much as I like DB, I think this was a bad thing to do and show - even if if was just an illusion. I once made a bit of fuss about the Magick programs being too dark and a 'heated exchange' (!) ensued with one ex member of TM. This stunt is probably worse than the things those guys did so I have to say I feel disappointed - especially after seeing all the good stuff he did on stage.

Let's hope it's a temporary thing otherwise we'll be offered the chance to buy his books about nasal piercing and saying it snot difficult to do!

I agree, i can see why he did it. Shoving the nail up his nose kind of links in with a pain barrier and mind over matter, but i didn't think it worked. For me it kinda spoilt what was an excellent show, with the voodo doll (when the ring was back on her finger!!) and the kids and teachers. (Pants!! )

I do agree in some ways, this was a harsh ending. I have seen this sort of thing before (swallowing rubix cubes, eating lightbulbs, hamering nail into nose..), but they werent on a magic show..

looks painfull that nose trick, i can imagine it going wrong and the nail comes out with a bit of brain stuck on the end! yuk! (sorry to fill your head with this sick thought! :D )

Hmm, I thought it was rather amusing actually, particularly since he linked it in as something he does in his spare time.

I'm not going to get into any arguments though, I can see how it wouldn't have been to many people's tastes, and I don't think I would have liked it if he had attempted to do it in a serious fashion.

I liked the idea of the magic square thing with the word teddy bear in that one, a slightly different application of an idea, I also enjoyed the voodoo thing though I admit to having spotted what he did with the ring so I wasn't at all surprised when it was back on her finger, nice effects though.

Matt

If you know someone who has SKY TV or you have it yourself, the show is repeated on E4 every week...

I missed it too, and my brother in law will be taping it for me...

I'll try find out what night, and post it here...
