Not sure they could do anything (desirable) about that, though. With the exception of one, there was no speaker it would have been preferable to have replaced with 'There's nothing to see here. So just mill around and talk to each other." Also, I get the sense that at the US TAM they're all in Vegas, from not-Vegas, staying in the same hotel, so things 'spill over' naturally. That's not going to happen in the UK. The delegates were all over the place - some were local, others weren't but were staying in lots of different hotels, hostels, friends' sofas, etc. Never mind the fact that we're British too, so it's simply not in us to start a conversation with someone we haven't met before.

Aye. I found it difficult, and for the most part ended up chatting to people from outside the UK. I didn't even bother going up to Bruce Hood so I could mistake him for Robin Ince.
