Thanks, AoS. I managed to find both those books for £10 so ordered them. Can't go wrong for a tenner (that's a tenner for both, not a tenner each!). I prefer to read from real books rather than PDFs or websites; it's just easier and more convenient, for me at least.

Richard Webster also has a short but interesting essay about playing card divination on the Deceptionary website (thanks, Rev. Tristan).

Really? That's great to hear, and an excellent price on the Webster book, since I haven't seen many (actually, just the one I have) below $35/21 Quid. Enjoy!

There was one secondhand copy on Amazon UK for £7, including postage from the US, so I snapped it up. All the other copies cost between £46-96.

Lady of Mystery is correct. If you can read tarot cards you can read playing cards. On a few occasions I have absent mindedly left tarot cards behind when I have a client. Since I always have a deck of regular cards with me I use those instead.

Incidentally I believe Richard Webster either has or is about to have a book published on reading playing cards. I always find his books on readings to be better than anyone else's.

 Mark, have you been on the mulled wine? That's twice now that you've agreed with me in the past couple of months :D

I only agree with the lady in question when she is right and then only with great reluctance. On this occasion regretfully I have been forced to agree with her again. It is indeed true that if you can read the Tarot you can read playing cards. I think it is a little less effective though since you don't have the Major Arcana but it does work.

Actually you can read Rune Stones too if you read the Tarot. When I first started to learn the stones I couldn't face learning all the different meanings but then I realised on looking closely at the stones that many of them could remind you of a card in the major arcana. For example there is one stone that resembles a twisted rope. That can easily be remembered as the hanged man in the major arcana. There are others such as an S shaped stone which can remind you of the Sun card and so on. With a bit of imagination you can work out a mnemonic for the major arcana.

Yep. I bet Lady of Mystery didn't know that one.
See. Women don't know everything after all.
