At my wits end. (chemistry supplies)

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

Well I got a reply from an american zinc supplier, so unless something goes wrong I'm good to go.
However this ginger beer stuff intrigues me, theoretically, how much would you need to, hypotheticaly, blow a building the size of, (random choice here) the Palace of Westminster?

Hypotheticaly.

Blast area may not be all that large, once the bottle's blown most of the force has gone but if you could smuggle about 50 petrol tankers full of the stuff into the undercroft, remove the safety relief valves, turn the central heating up and arrange for an earth tremor at the right moment, you might just blow the doors off.... (cue for rude joke or what? :D !)

Probably be simpler if I just keep the tankers full of petrol eh? Hard to explain if I got caught but then 50 tankers of ginger beer isn't what I'd call easy to explain.

Well, from what I have seen there are branded bottles of water which cost more than their equivalent measure in petrol. What is wrong with tap water.. Mind, in Deutchland, they look at you like you've just mercilessly raped mother teresa if you ask for tap water.

Okay I've found a site that has the materials I need and I think will sell it to me I just need to know the difference between.
SODIUM HYDROXIDE 0.1M (0.1N), and SODIUM HYDROXIDE 1M (N),

I realise a magicians forum probably isn't the best place to ask but the people on the scientific forums don't talk to me after I told them physics was made up by the Secret Order of Unholy Lizard-people, so I'm kind of stumped.

Sodium Hydroxide can be bought from ReAgent

Tannic Acid can be bought from Norkem Ltd

Alume is Alluminium

Iron Sulphate is usually sold in garden centres as a weed killer

Zinc Powder is usually found in a kiddies chemistry set

A virgins heart - I'll sell you mine for £500. For that money my heart is as pure and sweet as my smile :D

Goats blood you can easily get from your local halal butcher. Plenty of them in east London

Cheers is available on DVD from HMV or Amazon Uk as a complete box set of all the episodes.

You all realize you are now probably on some sort of government watch list.

If you are going to be working with pure/ solid Sudium Hydroxide you need to educate yourself.

1. NaOH is highly corrosive. Contact with skin will burn immediately. Contact with eyes will result in permanent blindness if not treated immediaty by medical staff.

2. Protective equipment is a must. At a minumum I would reccomend: laboratory safety specs and rubber gloves (household 'Marigold' brand do fine). If handling quantities larger than 1kg, a *full*-face visor and rubber apron are essential.

3. KNOW YOUR CHEMISTRY. read up on the correct method for dissolving strong acids/ alkalis. Get it wrong and it will literally explode. I *mean* literally.

I have worked with this substance in a professional capacity for over six years, and am well aware of what can go wrong.

PS. Prolly not a good idea to even joke about blowing up Parliament on a public noticeboard, especially in this post-9/11 (rather paranoid) climate. The Intelligence Services are not known for their sense of fun.
