Boys.... its that time again.

Its Twighlight season, and all our significant others, female friends, intimate acquaintences and plain old girlfriends are going to be using every trick in the book to get us to take them.

Mine even wants me to take her to the midnight showing on release day, so I am asking for help from talented magicians. HELP ME CONVINCINGLY FAKE MY OWN DEATH!!

I've been dragged along to the last two and despised them. This one may just be the end of me....

Oh, and any Twighlight fans that may be reading this... sorry, this thread is not for you

You have my sympathy, but there's no way out of it. From someone who's been married for 18yrs....if you find a sneaky way out of going and she susses it, you will pay for it for many, many years. The suffering just isn't worth it

I'm a bit of a vampire fan and read the books (almost all the way through!), and wished I hadn't. Absolute tosh. Book one wasn't so bad, if a bit sickly sweet and not well written. It went downhill from there.

Can't remember where I saw it you, but somebody said that the Twilight thing was good and is to be encouraged. Why? Because 12 year old girls into vampires and werewolves grow up and become 21 year old girls into vampires and werewolves and with a bit of luck sci-fi and horror. That can't be bad, can it?

I must be the luckiest guy in the world.
My girlfriend does not like Twilight and has no intention of seeing the latest one (let alone the first two!)

You'll have to share that luck with me! My girlfriend, being an English student, is rather snobbish in her literature choice!

I wouldn't be caught dead within 100 yards of Twilight, but I suspect I'm rather older (and possibly have better taste) than the target audience.

Here's an article from today's Telegraph:
Authors "sucking vampire genre dry"
Stephen Adams, Arts Correspondent

Authors and publishers are "over-farming" vampires, the award-winning author Neil Gaiman has said. The fantasy writer believed they had become literary cash cows since the American author Stephanie Meyer hit the jackpot with her Twilight series.

Meyer's books, which have sold millions of copies worldwide, have also been turned into box-office gold with a series of films starring Robert Pattinson as the vampire Edward Cullen, and Kristen Stewart as his human girlfriend Bella Swan. Fans camped out for up to 34 hours before the British premiere of Eclipse, the third in the franchise, in Leicester Square on Thursday night.

Gaiman, who last week won the Carnegie Medal for Children's Literature for The Graveyard Book, stressed that he "loved the fact" that "like JK Rowling, she [Meyer] has got a generation of kids reading". But he said Meyer's books had spawned a genre of imitators.

The author of Stardust and Coraline said, "Vampires are being over-farmed. At any moment when we can actually talk about vampires as a genre in their own right, there are too many of them."

They were "like stars" in that "they should turn up infrequently," he said. "Now they are like reality television contestants -- they are everywhere." Gaiman, 49, lamented, "The saddest thing is that it runs the risk of making vampires not scary."

Meyer sold £29.4 million worth of books in Britain alone last year, according to Nielsen BookScan, with her titles taking four of the five best-selling book slots. A host of other vampire writers made the 2009 best-selling list, such as Charlaine Harris and the mother-and-daughter team Phyllis and Kristin Cast.

Which just goes to show how poor a judge of quality the paying public are. Meyer's books suck. There are loads of better vampire novels out there. She wasn't the first and she isn't even close to the best.

Bring back Buffy. She'd show 'em! Even better, bring back Willow with her super mojo from season 9! :D

I didn't mind them and although overhyped the films are not overly bad either.

There I said it, sue me. :P

New Moon was one of the worst books I have ever read (but so was Crime and Punishment, Lord of the Rings was not much cop in my opinion either :P) the last two were quite good though, enjoyable even! As per the other thread about various books I read my fair share of other stuff so have no qualms admitting when I read popular literature as well especially if I enjoy it.

I used to loathe things like Harry Potter/Twilight/Da Vinci Code (Dan Brown's writing style is absolutely horrendous) but if it get's people reading, especially children, I am all for it. Especially as it might mean they read other things they would never have considered previously.

I wonder how many children/teens/adults have read Bram Stoker's Dracula as a result of Twilight's success?

Besides, the girl who places Alice is incredibly hot... :D

EDIT: Yes, do bring back Buffy and Willow. When Willow became gay, they really missed the opportunity for Buffy to be "confused"... even if just for one episode... or was that just me?

No mate, you're not alone!

Mind you, the episode where Oz left was very sad.

Nobody I know who is into Twighlight has any interest in reading Dracula, unfortunately. Mostly because its a horror and not a soppy romance book :P

It appears I am without help then. I will be dragged along to another unbearable viewing. Maybe if I get stinking drunk it can pass out before the opening credits roll?

What I don't get is, why would you want to drag along somebody who clearly hates the film, did film critique for his last year at university and is clearly going to sit and moan all through the film. Not to mention pointing out every flaw and plot hole. Its like she gets some twisted pleasure out of putting me through it, more than watching the film itself.

Wouldn't it be great though if they actually made this one into a totally over-the-top gory horror film instead of a "romance"? Like, they didn't base it on anything twighlight related, just the name, and it was some horrifically scary film. Imagine what a funny trick that would be.

Maybe I can get the projectionist to swap the reels with The Human Centipede lol

Do you remember when bad vampire Willow came to Sunnydale through some portal?

That was quite a good episode.

Vampire Willow in all that leather did look very nice indeedy! Give me the goth look every time.

Joss Whedon gave us so much with that wonderful series. Firefly and Angel were awesome too.
