Sexist too. I don't really know anything about Matt Parro ( the guy putting this together) but his photo's on facebook seem to have him gaining recognition by simply jumping in the background of pictures being taken of other famous magicians at conventions.

Sounds a little dodgey to me and I can't understand why there's any need to restrict by age or sex when it comes to magic, what difference does that make?

dodgy ground.

Not the gig, the advertising blurb. I am prety sure that it is totaly illegal to specify age and gender on an advert in this way.

I wouldn't have gone myself but it's the ageist angle that annoyed me and that they appear to not be that interested in the level of skill that the applicants possess.

There are a lot of modern day magicians that are older than 30.

nah. if it was a boy band, it would also stress that half the guys auditioning be gay, 30% should be on drugs, 10% should be serial sex pests, and those remaining should quit the group in 6 months to persue their solo magical carreers.

oh, and 3 should be good irish catholic boys..
who its discovered did a photo shoot some years ago, for dodgy special interest magazine called " Something for the Priests "

I'm 30 on the day of the audition but I wasn't born until 2.30 in the afternoon, could I please specify a morning spot so I fulfil the criteria?

They could probabaly argue the legal side of things. I know that when it comes to dancing or music you are able to specify a certain age, sex or race to make sure that they fit in with the act or show that you're putting together. If you're putting together a burlesque act, you're perfectly ok to specify that you're looking for a female dancer.

As long as they can justify why they need a 16-30 year old male, they're probabaly ok.

To be fair, the original poster never said "male". (Or if he did, he's edited it out since.)

Anyway, could my unique twist in the magical boy band be juggling?

Dodgy event planners tend to aim at the younger and more hungry performers if they do not intend to pay decent wages ... :(

I was 60 last month, could I apply to be two of these people? It would save money, reduce travelling weight so reducing carbon emissions and save the planet and I could tut tut and be a grumpy old man when they all took drugs whilst I was drinking half of bitter to get my high.

I think that I ought to be offended by this clearly ageist piece of advertising but I can't really work up the enthusiasm for it.

What does seem strange to me is that trhe originator has been oddly quiet when a torrent of responses have hit the forum.
