Fake gun real bang.

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

Pretty erie that he was called Mr Roberts.

Thanks for that big shot thats definite proof that I need to take this VERY seriously. This is a trick intended for a parlour setting and something I'm not going to do without a lot of preparation.
Thanks to this I will now also keep the gun in a locked case and talk with my local police department about any other precautions I should take.

(Read the date on the "cutting"... ;))

I was going to put the full name in, but it's hosted on an external, public site and I couldn't be sure you'd be too chuffed with your name plastered up in there even as a joke.

That was especially for you. :P Maybe I did it too well.

Or did you get that first time? One thing I hate about forums... no tone of voice. Hard to tell what's really going on sometimes.

Unfortunately the site I made it on clipped the masthead which was "The Daily Fail" - if that had stayed on it'd be clearer.

If it's as a parlour thing you won't need anything all that loud to fill the room and sound like a gunshot.

b*****! I completely believed it. I thought I assumed wrongly that police didn't carry firearms except in specific situations.

And yes your right it doesn't have to be so loud that it's deafening just loud enough that it's startling.

There - I've edited the other post so the proper paper title is in there now.
I thought the closing line of the police statement would be a bit outrageous too.

I should have known better than to rely on subtleties in text... it's always so hit and miss. :P

If indoors, have you considered the possibility of getting a decent looking BB gun, replica or some such and providing the gunshot over a sound or with a small firework?
The former lacks smoke and smell, the latter has smoke before the shot and sparks. Both probably require convincing acting of recoil and good timing.

The sound system (and maybe the firework) could deliver a bang on command with some sort of transmitter gadget in the trigger of the gun.

Technical theatre suppliers hire out blank firing replicas with sealed muzzles. I have a catalogue in front of me for one that charges £10-20 per firearm (for a weeks hire I assume) plus 7-40p per round of blanks. I can send you more details if you like?

Hah! Yes the ending was a bit of a giveaway.

Cheers big Jon, but I don't think they'll sell it to me.
