Undoubtfully, an ambitious card routine, and twisting the aces.

I'd go with twisting the aces for a short start. Follow this up with Ambitious Card, or 2 Card Monte. Occasionally if I want insta-wow factor, I'll do a "pick any card, and replace it" with SC control to bottom, then knock out a Hot-Shot Cut to reveal. Works a charm! =o)

I forgot to say that "Card Warp" is one of my fav's to. It's not THAT impromptu, but since the secret is SO small and easy to fix, I would go fo that one as well. It's a killer!

This is a really simple trick where all aces are held face down, then one will turn face up. You "twist" the pack, then a different one is face up. You turn this face down, then twist and yet another is face up. You can then reveal the final ace (usually the spade) after showing all cards face down.

It's real easy, and quick. Uses the Elmsley Count, and I *think* the trick was developed by Vernon. It is certainly in his "More Inner Secrets Of Card Magic" book, and probably a lot more..

Let them choose a card, return it to the deck and retaining it second from top, turn top card, look like a failure, then to a twirl change. Or...

Lee Asher's Twisting effect is worth checking out - 'The Asher Twist' - hard to find now, though - try eBay - it's on his video Well Done.

Personally, if someone just gave me a pack of cards, i'd go for simple stuff like, Gray's Spelling Trick, with all my spangly nonsense patter, that goes with it.

After learning the elmsly count i made up a little routine for myself.
I tell the spectator it's an observation test with 4 cards. Every time you turn over 1 or 2 cardsand ask them how many are face up. Whatever they say, you count the cards and they are wrong. Then the nmber of cards becomes 5, then 3, then 2 and then 4 again.

I always have some cards in my pocket ready to go for the card warp. You could also do it with a borrowed deck, but i don't think they woeld be happy if i fold their cards

If someone throws me a pack of cards and demands to see a trick I'd be tempted to do something involving a mercury card fold just ruin one of their cards, I can be quite evil sometimes. lol

Since I discovered my Double Sandwich (about a week and a half ago) it's been one of my favourites...

Though I think it's a bit weak, the quick audience pleaser for me at the moment is a 4-ace production whose originator I can't blummin' well find at the moment so I can name it. I'm sure it's somewhere in Card Concepts.

4 packets of 12 cards, with the four aces extracted. The spec loses the aces placed on top of the packets by cutting cards from one packet to another. He deals the reassembled deck into four packets of 13 and presto, turning them over reveals the four aces, one at the bottom of each packet.

What's weak about that? If your presentation is solid and the people you perform it for are entertained.... then it's a strong bit of magic you've just done.
