If that's the case you could make a copy with your PC and have a brand new disc. I've done it with a few of my kids' DVDs where the originals have become damaged to the point of useless.

Another alternative is the disc repair service that a lot of video game shops offer. They use a rotary machine that polishes the scratches out, making the disc readable again.

I seem to remember my brothers used to polish scratched CDs with turtle wax when the CD player wouldn't play them any more. It seemed to work.

I would take a lateral approach :)

I'm getting crazy.

EDIT: I've found it. And apparently it's exactly where it was last time I checked, but I had forgot. Shame on me...

Thanks for the push in the right direction, I've found the Devils Picture Book again. Thanks for the idea of backing it up onto a computer though, I might give that ago. I think I still will get a new copy of the dvd though, just because I do love to have nice copies of things. Crazy I know but still, can you blame me. At some point in the future they might stop making the dvd and nice copies could go the way of his books in which case it's a pretty smart investment.

And it would. Turtlewax is a mild abrasive so it would polish out light scratches, allowing the data layer to be read. When an optical disc becomes scratched to the point of unusable, in almost all cases the data layer is not damaged. It's just the clear layer of plastic that protects the data layer that takes the scratches, preventing the laser from picking up the data. Give it a clear path and all should be well. :D

Is having in a secret location just PR? If you Google for it you just get links to torrents surely not what he is after?

Does anyone know if you can actually still buy from this link?
I am sure this was linked from his main site and then taken off.
So unsure if it was taken off to be hidden, or taken off cause they are not selling it at the present moment.

It's still there on derrenbrown.co.uk. A few reasonably logical clicks and the answer to one question will take you to the page - you can buy it either in PAL or NTSC format.
