Favourite effect with TT?

Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

Can anyone recommend a good TT book? Cheap, preferably. :)

I bought one a couple of weeks ago and don't really have a great many ideas plus I'm pretty sure I'm using it all wrong. Not mention I probably need to get a paler one as it does look a little like my thumb is being Al Jolson.

Alfred are you vanishing the cigarette in your hand or someones shirt ? If its your hand a little ash from a finger, placed on the left palm prior to the effect can be a nice touch (assuming you are right handed).

I do it in my left hand, so will take your tip on board, cheers

I'm too obsessed with a clean finish though and always reach into my pocket for "magic cards" and we lead nicely into a card trick

Are you using Michael Ammars techniques from the book ? Some of his ideas on this effect are exellent, the snap is very nice.

Are you bringing out the cards after the effect or during ? From your posts im assuming you are placing the fag into your hand then bringing out the cards to rest on your fist, then showing the vanish, yes ?

      Spot on, Jim

I'll make a fist, show some smoke, put it out with a few (if not all) fingers, then reach for the cards and rest on the fist like you say

I haven't read Michael Ammar by the way, this is from a DVD set I own, David Jones, although he uses a jacket, I always quite like the visual of the smoke leaving ones hand

Check out Dave Forrest's "Bil-Ink" for a great use of the TT.

While the use of the prop is nice in that Bil-ink effect, i'd have thought hed have put more effort into his handling of the tt before releasing that demo.

Two books: 50 Tricks with a TT by Milbourne Christopher and 101 TT Tricks by Gary Darwin.

I have two TTs and neither of them match my skin. It doesn't matter because the audience should never see it from the side.

Some years ago I showed the vanishing silk as part of an after-dinner speech. An elderly man came up to me afterwards and commented that he'd been into magic as a child - he'd even had a plastic t****. He had no idea that that's what I'd used.

My favourite effect is (naturally) one that I invented. You can find it in The Linking Ring, January 1998. It only works with a hard TT.

Have you actually performed with it? Because used correctly, and of course depending what you do, a basic silk vanish for instance gets wonderful reactions from a crowd.

If you haven't performed for the lay public then that is the reason you got bored of it. Go out and give it a try.
