I was lol'ing at RobMonster's joke, not at Uri, I should add. 8)

Never said you were, it was just a general comment as I know Uri Geller gets quite a lot of stick. I was impressed, anyway, and I have a lot of respect for him as a performer. At least he's developed his own character, and isn't just another Derren Brown wannabe or whatever (I realise he was around a long time before Derren, but you get my point). I also loved the time when Criss Angel challenged him to guess the contents of an envelope, and Criss had to interrupt him as he was on the way to working it out lol

And he had 9 11 written in the envelope, how was he close lol

You might be right, but I thought there might have been a connection between 9/11 and the months and dates of their birthdays. Maybe he did interrupt because he was rambling, I dunno. But I don't think he deserves to be condemned by magicians like he often is, especially by hobbyist ones. I just think people should have some respect for what he has achieved, even if they don't like the 'paranormal' element of his performances.

there's is no "might be right"...he is right, there was no connection between anything because uri was clutching at straws.....you can't seroiously believe uri gellar has powers beyond that of any other magician??
problem with gellar is when a man claims to have genuine psychic ability, it will lead to him being disliked by people who know for a FACT he is talking out of his rear-end.............

and just beacuse you are a hobbiest doesn't mean everyone on this site is........... i think you'll find many working pro's on here (myself not included)

Firstly, yes, of course I realise that a lot of pros are on this forum, I wasn't suggesting that everyone here is a hobbyist performer. And yes, I can see why people might not like him because of his psychic claims. However, I don't really see what ethical problems there are with Uri. He's not pretending to communicate with dead spirits. He's just an entertainer. Derren Brown isn't entirely genuine about the whole NLP/psychological thing. Surely you realise, as a magician, there is a certain amount of room for showmanship and sometimes slightly outlandish claims.

Basically, I just don't really agree with people condemning professional magicians. As Michael Ammar says, it just tends to reflect badly on everyone involved. But then again, everyone is entitled to their opinion. So if you really dislike Uri, then that's fair enough. I just thought I'd try to put a different perspective across.

Some of mentalism's greats - Kreskin and Dunninger for a start - claimed psychic powers. It was the standard mentalism back story before all the NLP/body language/psychology nonsense.

I believe that some degree of psychic ability (IE intuitive ability) is possible. Anyone who works very much at readings and/or Q&A will probably agree. Not that I'm saying Uri Geller is genuinely psychic or can bend forks with the power of his mind of course. But there's more in this universe Horatio etc.

Haha, no, I don't. Magic is a game, after all. The spectators know magic isn't real, but they're prepared to play along as if it were. With Uri's psychic claims, I think it's sort of a similar thing. As long as it is purely for entertainment, and doesn't cross into the uncomfortable areas of mediumship and stuff, I don't really have a problem with it. Just my opinion.
