I tell you what ~ lets all sit at home and watch "Vicar Of Dibley" "My Family" and Robin Williams movies. Now they are truly offensive. Or perhaps "Countdown" with Paul Xenon doing tricks badly.

I didn't swear, I provided a quote.

Mr Lewis has his views which seem to include telling a man how to live his life and work his (highly successful) act. Not everything good is on the TV. I have my views which seem to me to be fair-minded (I'm certainly not telling someone how to do things)and am censored for it.

Re: article in the newspaper ~ I read that ages back and don't believe it ~ Jerry has a well-known aversion to newspapers and critics (I don't know why cos I've only ever read good things about his act) and was, reading between the lines and what the jorno wrote, spinning a yarn.

Just to correct this misunderstanding, you weren't censored, what you wrote was swearing and calling it a quote doesn't change the wording you used so it was edited. Whilst it may have been a factual and honest quote, we simply don't allow that kind of thing on TM for the reasons already stated and there are more acceptable ways of getting the point across. This is, incidentally, just a reflection of the terms and conditions you accepted when getting your registration.

However, back to the plot! Having seen Jerry work his wizardry or more than one occasion, I can fully agree that his magic is excellent and he is without doubt a skilled artiste so that's never in dispute. If he chooses to pepper his patter with what polite society terms 'expletives' then that's his choice and also for his audiences to decide on. I'm quite sure few people would go to one of his shows without knowing what they're in for. Personally I can’t see why expletives need to be used in entertainment, we get enough of them in 'real life' without getting more from paid entertainers. There again, that's only my opinion and it applies equally to Derren Brown who has been known to use similar wording on occasions such as in the 'Something Wicked This Way Comes' TV Show last week - the magic would be just as good (or bad!) without expletives.

Does Derren Brown actually swear on television? If that really is the case then he is even more awful than I thought he was.

It is interesting that Sadowitz actually recommended Brown for the programme in the first place. It seems that birds of a feather flock together.

he only swore the once mr. lewis on the live show...

please pray for his soul...

Jerry's book Cards on the Table is dedicated to Roy Walton i noticed...i do really enjoy Jerry's magic...he's very "classical" in that respect (for want of a better word)...

meh...swearing, im from filthy Essex, and i've had a couple of Scots girlfriends..we have a common bond due to the fact alot of us swear as punctuation...

i would guess that Reverend Lewis is from Edinburgh, and therefore doesn't swear...plus as a man of the cloth I'm sure he's against that sort of thing... :)

I am actually from Glasgow just like Sadowitz but spent many years in Essex. Woodford to be precise.

I see now that I am in exalted company in my opinion of the career prospects of Sadowitz.

No less a celebrity than Paul Daniels said something similar on his recent DVD which I heard an extract from the other day. He mentioned Jerry by name too. I smiled in triumph when I heard it because of the discussion on here.

blimey...Woodford!...of all places Reverend Lewis!

you might as well come from Romford...

sadowitz just seems to do it for the love of it...and thats the swearing and the magic...he's a bit of a self-saboteur, but that's for obviously very personal reasons...

I lived for 5 years or so in Woodford. I think the address was 89 Snakes Lane although I may have the number wrong. Just a short distance from Woodford train station.

I lived there from the age of 13 to the age of 18. In fact I first started magic in Woodford. I borrowed a book from the library there and it changed my life.

Sometimes I wish I hadn't bothered.

For those Sadowitz fans I must now reluctantly admit that my opinion of him has just gone up. It appears that I do have something in common with him after all.

Look at the question you have to answer correctly if you wish to access the "magicians only" area of his site.

I'm pretty sure he always has that look, Markdini. When I went in back in '05 I was hoping that he'd be there because I really wanted to meet the man. I had heard that he has a hate of Americans and, of course, my accent is very, very obvious. So, I was fully prepared to be insulted, or worse.

Nevertheless, he took time to talk with me, even though he had that "bite your head off" look about him when I approached. Mr. Sadowitz is a good guy - opinionated and not afraid to speak his mind, but a good guy.

Mike.

I first saw Jerry's comedy on TV when I was about 12 or 13 years old in the early 90's and I completely fell for him, from a female perspective something about him is incredibly vulnerable and even at that very young age and amidst all the profanity which I was not accustomed to at all it was that sensitivity that struck me the most. I had a huge crush on him, I actually live in Glasgow and had the opportunity to meet him when I was about 16 or so through a friend but I was far too shy to go in the end and probably still would be if I ever had the chance again.
Anyway I have seen him live a few times in recent years and I really think that his personal vulnerability is still at the heart of his presence on stage and I don't know if the comedy would work if it wasn't for that. It all seems very raw to me, very real and unmediated like the best art.
I am going to see his show in Glasgow next month and I'm really looking forward to it, he's wonderful.

You should say hello to him. He probably needs a woman. He seems a most unhappy soul.

Cheers for the link to his website Mark... I have to say it's the funniest thing I've seen in a long while.

Does anyone remember his BBC2 comedy series, "The Pallbearers Review" (going back about 20 years now!?!) or his xmas, 5min magic slots on C4 a few years later?

Not everyone's cup of darjeeling I guess, but isn't that what makes life so interesting? If we were all the same as performers and spectators then we wouldn't even be having this rather entertaining forum (and I'd be watching Diagnosis Murder on telly instead... actually, I haven't seen this episode.... back later!).
