Pretty sure that the video Paul Gordon just posted of his "The Ultimate Transposition" that he published in Nocturnal Creations in 1996 is exactly the same as Jerry Sadowitz's "The More Things Change" found in Alternative Card Magic

In fact, I know I am right?

How does someone get away with this?

You say you know you are right, do you own both authors relevant texts?

Seems weird that you make this post the same day a popular card magic blog also does?

http://phantom-notebooks.blogspot.co.uk ... -stay.html" target="_blank

I have had my fair share of opinions of Mr. Gordon's work but unless you happened on this by chance, why not post to the blog and
ask for discussion?

Seems odd.

NB The original title of this thread was unacceptable so it's been changed.

Also misleading. I first checked in hoping it was discussion of the Paul Harris T&R routine "Ultimate Ripoff".

Gutted.

I do own both actually as well as a few issues of the Crimp, card hits, alternative card magic is my favorite with the effects One Two Three kings which I perform often. Yes I saw the post and prompted the question as it deserved more recognition....

Problem?

Everytime I post there always seems to be a problem getting short with people and fed up.

The problem here is that anything put in writing on an internet forum will potentially be seen by millions. If the original wording were to be proved incorrect it's too late to take it back and, most importantly, those remarks could have a detrimental effect on the career of a working professional. The actual query was valid and I hope we can find out what the real history is.

By not copying word-for-word the original copyrighted material

Or

By creating the same effect independently without knowledge of the original (happens a lot)

I'd like to think most cases are the latter

This is the first time that I have read one of your posts and I may have to answers you are looking for.

1. You type in a very aggressive and confrontational manner. ie your 'problem?' Remark. That just comes across as thuggish.

2. You ask a question that you already claim to know the answer to. Why not look at how you structure your posts so that they spark debate.

3. From the posts above it appears that you tried to post accusations against a working pro without first having sought the facts. Why? Is there a vendetta against individuals?

I must be honest and tell you that on this evidence, you don't come across as affable at all and it looks as though you are an angry person.

That's my thoughts anyway!

Personally i think Paul Gordon comes under attack too often in the magic community, i have had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times and he is one of the nicest working pro's on the planet (in my opinion)

If he took an effect from somewhere else, oh well?! I'm sure Jerry Sadowitz is quite capable of standing up for himself, and would have more than likely had words with PG if he was bothered!

I could, if i wanted to ask Paul privately on Facebook as I'm privileged enough to have him as a friend on there, but i won't, because i don't understand why there is a need for an attack on somebody who has worked hard for 35 years of his life in magic!

I also have to second Alec's sentiments, especially in your response to Lenoir, who is also somebody who has a lot of respect from me, is very aggressive and in my mind unnecessary, the people on this site are very knowledgeable and between them there isn't anything they don't know in magic (if there is it's not worth knowing) but my personal feeling is that you should perhaps rethink how you interact with people here and we all enjoy a good debate, it's part of the fun of the forums, but don't claim a working pro is "ripping off" somebody else's work without some good hard evidence, it's disrespectful and rude.

I hope you continue to be a member of TalkMagic, but please don't be so disrespectful to other members of the site, also if you hang around long enough Paul is actually a member here, so I'm sure he will clarify, if he notices the post.

Much love

+1

Great post Alec

Once one posts something such as "in fact, I KNOW I am right" this might not be the best way to open up a discussion I would suggest?

Also saying stuff like "problem" is the sort of remark I would expect from a Neanderthal that can't handle his pint in a pub

Someone like Lenoir knows so much about card magic, it's history and origins, someone we can all learn a lot from

First time I have read one of your threads by the way so not sure what you have done to get people's backs up before

Enjoy TM, it is a fantastic place to share experiences, ideas, and can knowledge

Are you watching closely? Then I'll begin...

The reason I was so aggressive was that this is not the first time, every time I post people seem so snarly and horrid in their responses so why should mine be any different.

I take back my problem comment then.

thanks for your responses any how.

The Moderators on this board do keep a very close eye on pretty much EVERY discussion.

Usually, if it is noticed that anyone is being 'snarly' or 'horrid', this will be very swiftly dealt with, behind the scenes.

If you feel you have been unfairly 'attacked', please feel free to use the Report button on any relevant post to ask us to look at any future incident.

In the meantime, let's all play nice, eh?

Jabjay, don't feel like members here are attacking you, magicians by their very nature are opinionated *********s, but they are a good bunch here and the Mods on the board do deal with any upset caused quickly.

It's a good place when everybody gets along, so next post, just try and put it in a nicer way and generally people will respond nicely.

Much love
