Introduction to Coin Magic

Postby Bcfaigg » Mar 29th, '05, 19:26

Hi m8, I am not sure how much use I can be to you, as I am in the same boat as you.
Ammar's Introduction to Coin Magic seems to be one of the favourites to get started. I can't comment as I haven't got this.
I do have Sankey's Revolutionary Coin Magic, and I have put it on the shelf for the time being.
I have just brought Ian Kendal's Basic coin magic on vcd. It set me back £10 as opposed to £20+ for the Ammar dvd.
This only really teaches you moves, but Ian Kendal does have a great teaching style - so highly recommended.
I am sure other more experienced magi will give you their opinions, but I would probably go for the Ian Kendal or Ammar titles, and leave the Sankey dvd for later.

for the beginer amar encylopedia of coin slieghts or ian kendles, for the more advanced / beginer sankeys revolutionary coin.

also consider david roth's expert and ultimate coin works.

I know you mentioned DVD, but have you considered a book?

I mean, you can't go wrong with Coin Magic by Bobo.

(see that was a nice post)

As a coin begginer also, Bobo's book is really great. I've been told it's dry, but I like it. Some things are a litle hard to visialize at first, but it explains all the techniques in detail.

I started with Bobo but seemed to get nowhere. I bought David Roth's Expert Coin Magic 1-3. It was a revelation. You will never learn the subtlety, timing and sheer grace of Roth's movements however many times you read Bobo.
I beleive that Bobo is a good resource once you are more experienced and understand how things should look.
I also bought Ian Kendal's CD. This I highly recommend too. I run through most of his moves daily for a few minutes each as I believe that they provide a good basis to keep your fingers in trim.

You have to try and absorb every little peice of information in Bobo's. In my mind, there is no better coin magic book out there for begginers.
