To try and resolve this situation why not add a sticky to the top of the Support and Tips section titled something like "Suggested learning media for newbies" and in this give a list of a few books, DVD's, instant downloads etc.
You could have links to where you can get them from and to reviews on TM.
The newbie could simply browse through this and make up their own mind as to what they want to get to start them off.

This probably is the best thing to do, becouse recommendations are opinion based.
It's easy to say you must recommend a book dvd and other, but, you have to keep in mind that if your a book man, you'll recommend rrtcm, but maybe even another book wich you find good and probably don't wanna recommend a dvd.
And other way around.

So best is a sticky with a few things and the reminder for people to search in the reviews section to make it up for themself.

Wich by the way is something most people don't do, they choose for the easy way, to ask, not to find out.

Search option is a gods gift, so use it. (So is google)

your right , it is basic logic..thats why i wrote "they THINK.." which makes it purely a matter of personal preference and in which case it CAN be a true statement since it ISNT claiming it as fact....dont see why you cant grasp this Twisted Evil

Ok Mog well you didn't answer my question of clarification so I'll answer your point above anyway.

If I said I think that drinking large quantities of petrol is good for you, it would be reasonable for you to say my opinion was wrong. You see opinions can be wrong. If it was an opinion about a personal preference such as I think blue is the best colour, you would not be able to rightly call me wrong, as there is no right or wrong over such an issue.

If someone say's that Rrtcm was the very best way for them to learn, no one should disagree as this might have been their experience and we are in no position to deny this.
Now if someone suggests that they think Rrtcm is the best way for everyone to start they have now crossed the line and it's correct to say they are wrong. Logically of course they are wrong, for example some people can't read, for those people there is no way rrtcm would be the best. There are many other people for whom it wouldn't be the best but perhaps this group is the most obvious.

So to claim rrtcm is "the way" is wrong and you have therefore been defending a lost cause.

I rest my case.

Dennis and Hodgkinson, I agree and feel this potentially could solve the ongoing issues surrounding the recommendations of Rrtcm blindly to everyone.
