Just thought I'd give my opinion of the trick for the U.S. site visitors out there :-D

It's amazing and it works just fine with all standard U.S. coins if you're using a coke can, or a brand produced by the coca-cola company (sprite, etc.). Actually, Sprite cans are the best for reasons explained in the DVD.

If you choose to use a different can, it will still work, but you might have to alter your coin choice slightly. You'll never be forced to use a penny or a dime :)

All in all, it's a great effect and the DVD is fantastic quality, certainly worth the purchase. With a bit of practice, this illusion is performable by magicians of all skill levels.

great

I found this trick great too ... learnt it in several hours and
than I performed it with great reactions from the spectators. And I love impromptu magic, which this is ...

Sometimes the way the dvd player and tv are connected together can be a problem. The dvd has copy protection and may 'think' you are trying to record it on another machine through a scart cable

Oh man! What is it with people who don't care about paying for the effect of someone's which they are performing?! Whatever happened to giving creators their dues?

more often than not though, they say they figured it out, but haven't really....

but still they feel the need to try and "impress" others by saying so...

yet they don't understand when it doesn't...tsk tsk...

True, true.

It's the lack of respect for the creator that really annoys me. If I see an effect and work it out, I will still buy it if I want to perform it. Fine, analyse the performance or whatnot if you think it'll make you a better magician, but if you really respected the creator and were thankful for his material you would still pay for the right to perform it.

Back on topic however, this is a great piece of magic. Not much more to say about it really, instruction is brilliant and concise, pause it practise it play it, and at the price it's quite the bargain too.

This whole paying a creator for a illusion that you can figure out on your own baffles me. Watching other magicians perform is how all magic was passed on before the internet (yes, there was magic befoe you could buy it on the internet.) It's the way ALL ART is passed on. Jimi Hendrix didn't "steal" from the Beatles when he learned Sgt Pepper off the radio and played it in concert the next day, nor was he legal obligated to pay for it, and get this, The Beatles were actually honored that someone would like it that much to do so. As all artist are.

Why don't we all just admit this has nothing to do with making sure Criss Angel gets his cut of the 19.95 for a download you can learn simply by re-enacting the trailer and noticing the "funny" things that happen whe you slap a quarter into the bottom of a soda can held that way. It's about all the people that wish to attract magicians to a forum like this so they can advertise products on thier magic websites to them but then discourage them from acting like magicians. I'm not talking about exposure, I'm talking about encouraging magicians to be artist not simply consumers.

If you'd rather buy an effect then spend the time to figure it out, go right ahead but lets stop pretending that forcing yourself to not be inquisitive is dishonorable compared to throwing money down on every shiney trick that catches our eye at first glance.

(and if you are going to buy something buy color fusion, it kicks ass  )

Please, I'm not some ten year old gimmick trick dvd trick gaff trick trick obsessive. My point was by all means try and analyse it yourself if you think it'll help you improve, but at least show some respect for the person or people who have given you this material to add to your act - it's about respect. I'm not peddling any wares myself, but I know many creators.

If you had come up with something yourself which you had spent ages putting together and testing, and then writing or recording you surely wouldn't be too happy if people were performing it and you hadn't seen a single penny. I hardly think you'd be going "hey, I'm so honoured". Would you walk in to a magic shop, pick up the DVD of the effect and walk out without paying, saying "It's okay, I figured it out from the demo!".

Inventing a gimmick is one thing, that's a invention. It's copy-rightable. A routine is a routine. By law, it in itself belongs to no one. No matter if its a dance routine, a song, a recipe, a painting. Anyone has they right to perform or recreate these.

(Selling a recording of yourself performing it is another story.)

I just find a magician acting like they should get paid for creating a sequence of slights of hand as foolish as a dancer doing the same for their sequence of moves (or a musician, a cook, or a painter.)

Perform it and copyright and sell the performance.

Michael Jackson copied all his moves in Billy Jean from Bob Fosse... yes, I am embrassed that I know that. That's what artist do when they admire other artist.

I don't believe magicians view themselves as an exception as artist, so I'm left to believe this attitude has to do with advertisement, and I don't buy it, no pun intended.

If your friends or anyone else wants to get paid they should, like all artist, perform more or learn to teach it so well that they as a teacher make it of value.

Woah

At first sight, that looks like a rather inflamatory comment, Rich. I'm quite sure Cardza isn't trying to do anthing of the kind. It seems more about giving credit where it's due. I mean, if I saw you perform a reputation maker you'd come up with and simply took it from you and perhaps used it to land a TV special, all without ever bothering to acknowledge the debt I owe you, would you be okay with that?

Oh I am in no way connected to Wayne Houchin. This is honestly me moral and ethical viewpoint. Like I said, it's not about copyrights and all that (although of course we could get in to Intellectual Property Rights), but more about respect. Chances are, had he not put together this sequence of moves you wouldn't be performing it.

The difference between a dance routine and a magic routine is of course that one is up for sale and the other is not.

And the people I know perform A LOT .

Again, in no way am I connected with Houchin. This is just my attitude towards things like this.

EDIT: thanks Tomo, certainly not here to advertise or anything like that, or to discourage anyone from "acting like a magician".

Performing someone elses trick and appearing on television with someones trick are two different point legally and ethically because there is then a recording of protected material done for profit, whether it's the magicians profit or otherwise. The tricks is discussion are record for both posterity and for legal protection. So to learn a trick for your own enjoyment and unrecorded performance is no different then taking a dance move or playing a cover song. I just don't see where this attitude that magicians should think they are entitle to be expected to be protected more then other artist and that those magicians that disagree should be put down as disrespectful or unethical which is done constantly by some on the forum. It's no different then a kid learning a song off the radio and not buying the sheet music.
